How much did you spend on your fence?

@Jilliebean1:  We did it ourselves and saved a lot of money.  We did privacy panels with two gates.  Each panel cost less than $20 from the local Home Depot and we used a level and string to line up the panels before planting the posts and screwing the panels together with a rented screw gun (also from Home Depot.)  It was actually pretty easy and only took two days worth of work to enclose 1/3 of an acre.

Quotes were from $1500-3000 but we did it ourselves for well under $1000.  My parents live in a more rural area so they put up a chainlink fence because it was cheaper than the privacy panels.  They paid for a company to do it for them since the chainlink is tough to work with if you aren’t used to working with it.  I have no idea what they paid but they said the chainlink was the cheapest option.

We closed in 1 acre of land at our house, and it was done (in a day!) for $2200. This was basic chain link. The quote for a wooden privacy fence on one acre was $5900! It would’ve been cheaper if we’d done it ourselves, but we wanted it done quickly and were willing to spend more money to have it finished soon.

(We also have one double gate on one side, and a regular gate on the other.)

We live on about 5 acres, 2.5 of which is fenced in pasture area. We fenced in from our house to a machine shed that is attached to the pre-fenced area, and then from the other side of the house at this weird angle down our yard to the other end of the pre-fenced area. I’d like to say it’s maybe half an acre fenced in, but I could be wrong.

We got lumber at Menards, in fence posts and pre-put together fence sections. It was around $1,300 for the materials. We put the fence up ourselves, with my dad’s help, so we saved on not having to pay someone to put it in. It took a bit longer, hit a few snags along the way (chopping through the sewer line on one side and an electric line on the other), but that could only be expected.

We put in a fence because of our dog. We live right next to a highway, and she likes to chase cars. It’s nice to be able to open the back door, let her out, and not have to worry about her getting loose.. It also added a bit of privacy if we have guests over and are hanging out in the backyard.

@Jilliebean1:  Our fence is just like what you want.  We have a privacy fence that goes the full length of both sides and is across the front, but we have black vinyl chain link on the back edge that faces the woods.  We have a pretty large yard for our area and we paid about 2k for it all said and done, but we got a deal on it because we worked it into the contract with the builder of our home.  Gotta love new construction!  (Please ignore the uncut grass and dug up lines, the sprinkler system just went in)

We did black steel 4′ fencing and it cost about $4k (ouch). Our yard is less than 1/4 acre.
