The bags themselves or with all the extras thrown in? Bags were 1.99 each. So far we've spent about $5 per bag to fill them, I expect we'll prob spend another $2-3 on something. So $10 each (this was the one item I vastly underbudgeted for).
what all are you putting in them? and which guests are receiving them?

I am not 100% sure what we are putting in them yet. Some knick knacks, water, cookies, maps, etc...
I think I spent maybe $5 each. I got the bags at dollar tree and most of the stuff that went in them also at dollar tree. I also printed up maps to all the festivities and phone number list for those just in case situations.
I made about twenty bags, but we have a lot of OOTers coming.
I think ours were $5 or under. We got canvas bags online for .99 cents each. I decorated with a doily stencil and black fabric paint. To fill I went to the Dollar Store. I put all kinds of stuff in a baggie ( tissues, Tylenol, hand sanitizer, safety pins, band aids, wipes, and nail file) and then we got little Coke glasses (2 for $1) and put 2 in each bag filled with our favorite candy from the Dollar Store. And then a welcome letter and a brochure for the area with a map (free from visitor’s center) everyone loved them.
Those are really good suggestions! I need to get on it. Nothing like leaving things to the last minute!
I am thinking ours will be about 30$ for everything (per bag).. And we are gifting these to the guests that stay at our preferred hotels. It is the only way we can track who is where!
I'm hoping not to spend more than $5 per bag (and contents.) I was going to include maps of the area (some of the maps include coupons for local attractions which is a bonus) the "Where" magazine that comes out every 2nd month, a bottle of water for each person in the room (for example 4 if there are 2 parents, 2 kids) some granola bars. I'm sure more things will pop into my head in the next 6 months!
I just did an estimation of how much it will cost and its coming out to be about $374 total and $10 per bag. Does that sound about right??? I *think* we are going to have:
Bottled Water
Black and White Cookie
Pop Chips
1 <3 NY T-Shirt
Packet of Motrin
Subway/Bus Map
Welcome Letter
Things to Do Notes
@cabanagrl9 - I would love that bag, if you have anyone that hasn't been to NYC before you might give a quick explanation of how to use the subway. It took me prob 30 min to figure it out the first time I was there, LOL.
I can't wait to start making OOT bags. Basically my entire family will be OOT, and only my mom and sis have ever been to Cali!
@pinkb - where did you your 99 cent bags?!
We haven't bought everything yet, but probably going to spend about $25 per bag. Which will contain the following:
Blue canvas bag
Hand/Body Cream
Travel packets of tissue
Bottles of water
Snacks (cookies, chips, muffins, etc)
Pen and Paper
Welcome Letter
After party flyer
Phone and Address list
@cabanagrl9 Ours are going to be pretty similar, though we might add swirly lollipops from Dylan's Candy Bar. I'm still trying to figure out the bag...might be DIY stenciling for us. :)
I have a lot of out of towners (probably 60 bags), so I'm trying to keep it around $2/bag. I'm estimating per bag:
$0.40 Brown Kraft Shopping Bag with handles
$0.30 Picard Peanuts (local snack), negotiated with owner
$0.40 3 x chocolate (hallowe'en package style)
$0.03 Door Hanger (white card stock)
$0.15 Water Bottle (no label)
$0.10 Stationary (Personal Letter, Directions on card stock)
$0.10 Decor (Ribbon, Tissue Paper)
$0.12 Advil Two pack
$0.42 Various additional snacks TBD (healthy granola bar?)
+Tourism Map (Free from Tourism Bureau)
@MrsMaine: LOL...same here :)
We budgeted $500 for about 50 welcome bags, but back when I put the budget together I forgot to include the $5 per bag the hotel is charging to have them in the rooms when guests arrive. So if you include that and the label paper/satin ribbon I ordered to make the gable boxes look pretty, it's about $17 per welcome pack. This includes the following:
Gable boxes, ribbon, labels, cello bags for packaging, cardstock/paper (itinerary accordion, welcome letter, things to do brochure, door hanger), bottled water, kettle corn, Wrigley's gum (hey, it's Chicago...), Cake Pops, trail mix, Clif bar, granola bars, tea bags and honey sticks (groom is British and insisted), Advil, Scottish shortbread. I think that's it...oh, and that crinkle shred paper to cushion the bottom of the gable box.
With the exception of 3 couples, all of our guests are flying in from out of town/country and are staying at our preferred hotel. So luckily, I only have to make one delivery to the hotel for the boxes. But that also means 98% of our guests are receiving a welcome pack. I think welcome packs/bags can be done for way less or way more, just depends on what you want to put in them and how you want to package it.
I had a lot of out of town guests but we skipped the welcome bags. It would have been nice to do but I did not have the money or time when it came down to it. We had an open rehearsal dinner where we invited everyone from in town and out of town so I felt that was a more important place to spend money.
It is a nice thought if you can afford it but I wouldn't stress if you are down to the wire. One thing I didn't really count on with guests was that so many made there own hotel reservations outside of our blocks and stayed all over the city so keep that in mind. Best of luck!
I think we'll be spending about $25 per bag (that includes the $5 delivery charge). We are doing a destination wedding so all of our guests (one per couple) will receive a bag.
there's a hotel delivery charge?!! i didnt even think to ask about that!! are they local hotels charging that or chains? i have all my guests staying at a hampton inn or holiday inn.
My hotels don't charge. I negotiated that when I booked the room block (and I'm not even having my wedding at the hotel!!!)
@mudratdetector: I think it depends on the hotel. Mine is at a Renaissance Marriott and they charge $5. Just be sure to ask your hotel(s) before planning your budget for this project. I didn't, and then I found out it would cost me $250 just to have the bags waiting in the rooms when guests arrived!
We are spending about $6 a box. 1 box per room.
Personalized Gable boxes from etsy $3.00
$25 restaraunt.com gift certificate $ 2.00
Visitor guides/Maps/ Discounted coupons for local attractions: Free
Handwritten welcome letter: Free
Bottles of water: .20
Snacks $1
Hand sanitizer $ .50
We are trying to keep ours at $10 per box, this includes $3/per room charge for the hotel to deliver the boxes. Here is what they will be, fall orcchard theme:
-Kraft Gable Box
-2 Apples
-2 bottle water (mini)
-bottle apple cider
-baggie of peanuts (in the shell)
-2 oatmeal raisin cookies
-baggie of kettle corn
-welcome booklet (incl info on the weekend, places to go, places to eat and map of the area)
I really wanted to do little fondue kits:
-mini bottle of champagne
-mini butter warmer
-chocolate for melting
-treats to dip in the choc
But FI thought open flame in a hotel was a poor idea! :)

I think the title is pretty self explanatory, but I am trying to gauge how much we will be spending on these. Any idea????
Edit: I mean all together-bag and stuff in the bag. Plus if you could include how many bags made and over all total that would be great too!
