sfigu16:  We had a restaurant reception!  We were not required to pay for the space, just for the food since we had our reception outside of their usual operating hours.  Which was an amazing deal for this restaurant, which is a well-known, nice restaurant in the town I grew up in.  We had our reception from around 1:45-4:30 and served mostly heavy hors d’oeuvres (catfish & shrimp w/ fancy sauces) plus sides (veggie or chicken jambalaya and heavenly cheese grits) and drinks (soft drinks, tea, and water; no alcohol).  We planned for around 100-120 people and paid about $15 per person.

We had no rental fees for tables/chairs/linens, just had to provide decor and flowers and we provided our own cakes.  All in all, it was a good option for us and we came in just under our total wedding budget of $10,000 doing it this way.  And it was a beautiful reception, just as nice and classy as more expensive ones I’ve been to at fancy venues!!!

As far as dancing, we had an area for dancing, but I had been in the hospital for three days the week of the wedding and so we didn’t dance.  Therefore, no one else did.  We had a pianist for our music/entertainment and that was just enough!

One thing you’ll need to remember if they have operating hours (and your reception is outside of them) is that you’ll have to be cleaned up in time for them to open on time.  Just something to think about!
