@Purple_Bride:  We are lucky because out friend got ordained and registered, so she’s doing it for us. However, before we decided to do that I was looking at non-denominational, non-religious options here in NYC and they are $600+ for a SHORT ceremony! I told my friend that she should make it a business after she writes ours 😉

Another example of the wedding industry gouging…

$175. I thought that was a lot for a 15 minute ceremony.

Our civil ceremony was $200 and that a random guy we found online. Very little religion.

Our big ceremony in October my old neighbor happens to be a pastor so we asked him to do it. He wouldn’t tell us how much he wanted so we also gave him $200.

Mine was $450.  It’s typical.  And she does several weddings a day!

Our friend did it for us, for free! 🙂 He wrote everything, too, so we didn’t have your run-of-the-mill ceremony. It was great.

$50 for my mom to become a certified officiant for the day in the state of CA. More meaningful and cheaper!

all the people we interviewed were 1000+! We finally found someone who speaks Spanish and was only 400! I say 435 is a great find!

Ours was $575? Or $525? One of those numbers.

Our wonderful celebrant is writing a custom ceremony for us, which is why it’s a higher price. It’s totally worth it to me. Neither of us wanted a generic ceremony, and I was adamant about no religion. Yet, we don’t want to show up to the ceremony blind, so we get to edit it the whole way through.

Our celebrant has really taken the time to get to know us, and I love it. She has such a calm, loving sense about her that I knew she was the one for us at the first meeting. And she really does put a lot of time in. Not only did she meet with me for an hour before I even booked her just so we could get to know each other, but when my fiance visited she came and hung out with us for an additional hour since she hadn’t met him. She certainly didn’t need to do so, but it shows she cares about her job and wants to represent us well.

She’ll also be helping us with our vows. We don’t want to work on them together, so she’ll work with us individually to make sure they are cohesive and go together.

Love my celebrant. Worth every penny!
