@Nic01:  ours wasn’t included either. it was an additional $500 but in making our decision we stressed how important it was to us and they ended up throwing it in for free! Have you tried asking?

Ours is included – all day coverage, the fully edited DVD (6 copies), the highlight video, and all the footage on an external hard drive that we provide is $1000. It’s a steal! The highlight video would be important to me, and I’d make it a point of negotiation. That is the part of the video you can most easily share with others.

If they take credit cards, you could try, “If we pay by check, so you don’t have credit card fees, would you be willing to throw in the highlight video?”

“If we pay in full up front, would you be willing to include the highlight video?” (My photog gave a 10% discount for paying in full when signing the contract, so worth asking!)

Or simply ask “Is there any way we can get the highlight video included and stay inside our budget of $X?” And see what they say. Maybe it’s cutting an hour off of filming or maybe they would just throw it in.

OP, $400 is reasonable. My FI is a wedding videographer. For all the effort they put into editing, which is a PAIN…$400 is a good price.

A friend of ours (we have TONS of wedding videographer friends…) is doing our entire day-of photography and an engagement shoot/interview for free!!! Ah so blessed.

But yeah $400? jump on that.

@Nic01:  Good idea! Yeah, all the equipment neccesary to run a business like that is EXPENSIVE. VERY expensive. Software for at least $1k, a good camera for at LEAST the same, plus cables, hard drives, mics, cords, all that. PLUS time for labor. Eek!

@Nic01:  Yeah exactly! And trust me I think $400 is a great price. 🙂

I’m having a similar experience with a scrapbooking friend who quoted me at $400 for a 20-page wedding photo album. WHATTTT!? But then she broke down the pricing and after it’s all said and done she is giving me quite a deal. Haha.

My videographer quoted me $1000 for a 5 minute highlight reel.  I said no thanks 🙂  I know there’s a lot of work involved, but it didn’t seem worth it to me!
