I just bought mine. It was OVER TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. OMG. I almost had a heart attack. WTF?! It wasn’t even the nicest one they had! It’s a front-loading, Whirlpool Duet Steam set (stainless steel).
How much did yours cost you? I spent $1400 on a refrigerator, but I kind of expected that. Did not expect to spend $2300 on a W/D.

Yes, we spent a little over $2,100 on ours when we bought it in October 2011. But I wanted to get a nice one – we use it all the time and we should have it for at LEAST the next 10+ years I would hope.

Ours were a gift from my grandparents… They were a year old, but really nice… After a remodel they needed a set that were a few inches narrower so we lucked out… I’ve seen sets at lowes for $700-800 per machine… $500 extra if you want the stands… You can get 10% off with a moving coupon from the USPS change address packets they have at the post office…

I got mine used because it’s in a laundry closet that no one sees every except SO and I, but they don’t look bad or anything, just older kitchen aid models. Cost $175 bucks for the set! I’ve had them for about 5 years so far.

We got a cheaper set from Sears Outlet – can’t remember the price since it was a few years ago, but it was well under $1000 for both.
Edit: They might have had dings in them, which brought the price down lower, but I don’t remember what damage they came with vs what we caused by moving them twice LOL

@lina010: Ugh, I should have done that! I don’t really care about what it looks like it the slightest! I was going to go with a top loader, much less expensive set, but it was really only a difference of about $400, which I figured I might as well get the nice one at that price point. I never even thought about going used!

I bought mine used on Craigslist for a couple hundred bucks. They were in great condition and worked just fine. I sent a bleach cycle through the washer before I put my stuff in it.
I still prefer top loaders because the front loaders seem to have more issues. My stepmom is constantly having mold and smell issues with her front loader.

We spent $597 for washer and $597 for dryer. Kenmore brand, front loaders, white. Plus a silly $75 fee for delivery/set-up and about $65 for cords and hookups. What I did want was the bases to go with them, but at $250 per base, I said absolutely not! Although I must say, this is my first use of front loaders, and so far I am very impressed!

About $800 on a black friday deal last year 🙂

We bought ours used / refurbished. We got them both for under $800.

We spent about $1200 on a high-effiency set.

i think ours were about $500, but they’re second hand. unfortunately, they both ended up needing repairs, so we spent a couple hundred on the parts to get them working properly again.

We bought a set about 3 years ago. Amana, front loaders, white, for around $1,100 total. This summer, the washer and dryer in one of my rental houses stopped working, so we decided to move ours into that house and buy ourselves newer, better ones.
We bought Samsumg, front loader, gray, steam function, larger capacities for around $1,800 including deliver. SO WORTH IT!! I can wash and dry 2 comforters at the same time, and DH loves the steam function for his shirts.
So I’d say you probably get what you pay for.

I want to say we got our dryer for like $200-300 and the washer for $300-400? Both we got from sears/kmart. Discount weekend (20% off) and then ended up canceling the dryer order because we snagged it way cheaper at the KMart that was closing down. I guess it helps to know people 🙂 Both brand new, Kenmore brand, energy efficient. The washer is one of those new top loaders (we both hate front loaders) without a center agitator. If you are looking for a good deal you can always talk the HHGregg people down and pretend you are a Kmart/Sears employee and have a discount there. HH Greg was going to match us.. but we decided for the Sears ones.
