@MrsPanda99:  we’re having a friend do it. we set aside $300 but so far he is refusing everything we’ve offered him.

$200, friends of mine are doing it. They are professional officiants. They cost more, but we do business together.

I voted $300 – but that was for the church in general and the meetings before with the priest.

I’m not sure, I know a lot of churches have a recommended donation amount, I’ve heard $500 from a lot of my friends but we haven’t gotten that far yet.  We’re hoping to ask my Uncle at Thanksgiving.

Nothing. We are opting for a civil ceremony with a non official celebrant (they get ”sworn in” for the day and can only do it once, but it costs nothing). The only fee is 50$ for the wedding paper itself (for administration).

@MrsPanda99:  It’s apparently really easy in the states to get the paperwork to marry someone! It’s much more complicated for us poor Canadians 🙂

Well I voted $50 because we asked him to travel a little over two hours to my hometown from FI’s hometown to perform the ceremony, so we are paying for his gas. Technically we are “paying” for his overnight lodging from Friday to Saturday that includes breakfast, but it’s all part of the big B&B package we have and if it wasn’t them it would be another family member, sooo.

But in addition to that we will probably also make a $50 donation to the church, at LEAST. He said that no donation was necessary but we would like to do something!!

@MrsPanda99:  My sister is doing it. She’s going to spend about $50 to be “ordained” for a day.

Ours is $550 for the ceremony and rehearsal. We get a custom ceremony written for us and our officiant is great with coordinating the entire ceremony at our location. She was able to draw out where everyone would stand, walk in, the timing etc. It was a lot of money but we preferred this route.

The officiants voted best in our area were actually $800 for pretty much the same thing. That was too much for me. Our other alternative was to get a justice of the peace or use some one from our church but that required months of classes and a lot of rules.

Here each State has different rules on who can officiate a wedding.
