this is interesting! I'm curious how much the average couples spend on weddings in your area. Is/was this about what you spent/plan on spending??

"On average, US couples spend $20,398 for their wedding. However, the majority of couples spend between $15,299 and $25,498 while their wedding budget is typically 50% less than the amount spent. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring."

it says that couples in Los Angeles spend between $18,511 and $30,852 for their weddings.  I actually don't know anyone personally who had their wedding in LA under 30K, (not that it's not possible).  Unfortunately I think this calculation is kind of skewed when it comes to LA and many other big cities.  It takes into account the many extremes that are present in the wide array of socio-economic areas in a big city to skew the numbers.

Also interesting that when I typed in my parents' zip code it came up with between $57,216 and $95,361 and they only live a few miles from me in a similar neighborhood.

    Ouch...

    $21,877 and $36,461

We'll be somewhere in the middle of that, but for some reason seeing that number go into the $30k range really made me feel sick.

BUT that was where I used to live... I moved to the boonies, and it didn't even register my new zip code!!!  LOL

I wish my wedding couldve been this price!  I think guest count definitely factors in, as I had 220 guests and mine was just under double the high end listed above!

@Minuatie: I wonder where in central PA you are from? We almost have the same numbers...I'm from central PA too!

On average, couples that live in PA spend between $13,157 and $21,928 for their wedding.

That's about right. The one reception venue EVERYONE uses around here has a $9,000 minimum for a Sat wedding

Ok so just for fun I put in FH's zip code and this is what came up

On average, couples that live in PA spend between $25,548 and $42,581 for their wedding.

I am dumbfounded! $42,000? He grew up only 15min from me! To see that number more than double the high end for my area in just a small distance make me sick

    Wow, Nexus!

    Mine wasn't that bad...

On average, couples that live in Charleston, SC spend between $19,123 and $31,872 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring. Wedding cost or average spent based on spending of other brides and grooms not wedding vendor prices. Spending and prices can vary widely. You should expect to pay 25% to 50% more for a well-experienced professional. Investigate all options and choose products and services that best meet your needs.

Yeah, definitely not within those numbers... and we're still going to have just as great a wedding. It's all about what you're talented at. Luckily, my talents lie in design and sewing. (To get the wedding I want without me being able to do it would cost me roughly $23,000 instead of the $13,000 it will cost... isn't that INSANE?!)

OH MY GOD. I put in the zip code for the city we're actually getting married in, instead of the one we live in: On average, couples that live in Malibu, CA 90265 spend between $67,160 and $111,934 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring.

I feel a little sick inside now.

Where I actually live is between $27,078 and $45,131, which is actually where we'll be so I guess we're doing okay. ;)

haha, the only reason ours IS so cheap is because we're going to city hall. If we were doing a normal big thing it would definitely be that much around here. We're taking a fancy honeymoon paid for by FI's parents to make up for it. I actually think we'll spend less than $10K on stuff for the actual wedding and reception.

Ha I found this to be really funny.

If I enter the zipcode of where I grew up and where my parents still live:

On average, couples that live in Hunlock township: Luzerne County, PA 18621 spend between $6,731 and $11,219 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring.

But when I enter the zipcode of where FI grew up, where his parents still live, and the zipcode in which the wedding will take place (which is 10 minutes away from my zipcode):

On average, couples that live in Back Mountain, PA 18612 spend between $18,205 and $30,342 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring.

    That's such a difference!

@Miss Stephanie: That is what happened to me! He is the next township over and I literally live on the line between the two (our houses are actually 15 min apart but the township line is right in my backyard)! The numbers were completely different. Very funny

@Miss Spaniel: Wow! That's all I can say is wow! I also checked the zip code for the OBX, where our wedding will be and it was very similar to the averages for my area. Phew! Nothing like your price difference! haha We are will be on the under budget/on the low end of the average.

..My FI and I are right in the middle of this number...we are around 30K for a DW/Honeymoon for 2. Although when I think about the fact that we are spending that much just for the two of us and no guests...WOWSER...we have lost our minds!

I'm not sure how accurate this statistic is because our wedding overall including wedding and honeymoon costed $15,000.  But then again, we only had 41 guests.

I was really shocked by this. We're getting married in Bloomington, IN, a college town, and the average is between 18,000 & 30,000. Our budget is $15,000! And I've been thinking this whole time that all of our local vendors are cheap..hm.

@star - I felt like Chicago's was really low compared to what people I know spend, as well. I think the city numbers are skewed because urban areas tend to have such a variety of incomes. You probably have a lot more people doing only courthouse weddings, etc, contributing to that number.

Well, I thought getting married in Sedona was expensive. For that zip code, it says Between $29,373 - $48,955. But, I guess that's better than getting married in my own zip code, for which it says: $36,410 - $60,684. Eek!

I am working with a $17k budget and trying to stick to it. $12k below the low # for Sedona. Hhhmmm. We only have 30-40 guests coming, and only 2 people in our bridal party, which helps.
