This year we set a limit to $200. We just got married 2 months ago and got a studio for our business so we are kinda broke. Last year it was $300. He said he went wayyyyy over this year. Yay for me! Does that mean I can go over too? I really really want to get him this Guess hooded Leather jacket he really likes. I got a Macys charge. ; )

Anyway our gifts for everyone this year were lots of wedding photo's and colleges. Im so excited to give them to family!!! My mom is going to have happy tears! : )For Hubby I got him lots of cute personalized things. I love the sappy stuff. Can't get enough!Innocent What was your gifts?

Happy Holidays everyone! p.s. I love being married for Xmas!!!!!! Im so excited this year.

We got our families wedding photos, too! We made photobooks for our parents and wedding party at shutterfly, and we also got some people framed enlargements. That's all anyone wanted this year, they told us.

The hubs and I usually spend between $200-$400 total, including stocking stuffers. We don't try to set an exact budget because sometimes, one can afford more than the other. Usually, we just say, "Whatever you think is appropriate this year." Of course, we both always end up splurging a little :) This year, I got him a nice watch. I got him a watch the first Christmas we were together because his previous one was from HS. The one I bought wasn't that great, either, because we were broke. But it was still an upgrade. Since then, it's been a joke because it always breaks and falls apart, and I always told him, maybe the first Christmas we're married, I'll get you a really nice one. So I'm sure he's expecting it, but hey, I kept my word! I also got him a cashmere sweater and some other smaller things.

Oh goodness - me & the FI this year aren't doing anything. We have tooo much to save for the honeymoon so we decided to only get gifts for our dads & moms and grandparents, and the kids, ofcourse, too. But yesterday we went "christmas shopping" for everyone and I wound up spending $35.00 on this shirt I LOVED and looked over at him & said "do you want to get yourself a Christmas gift too, since I'm buying this?" And he goes "YEAH!"

So he got him a Florida State sweater. SO, I guess you could say THAT'S our christmas gift...even though we said there would be none :).

Me & my fam this year had our christmas early...Saturday night actually! We did a "dirty santa" thing where everyone got $25.00 gift cards. It forced me & my hubby to spend $50.00 but you get $50.00 right back!

I can't WAIT for next year - so we can be married & NOT broke! :) Merry Christmas girl & I'm so glad your MARRIED!

@MissChapstick- I love the wedding photo gift idea! Thats all my family wanted this year too! I had so much fun making framed collages and I also got large prints! Photo books is a great idea! And same here I always splurge. I just might stop at Macys and get that coat on the way home! Its so cute and its only $99 and I have coupons. I saw it with him and stopped and was like omg thats sooo you! He looks so handsome in it. I cant believe the great deal!

LOVE the jacket! Looks like it'll last for a while, too. So $99 isn't a bad deal at all

Wish we had a Macy's here! Lucky!

We set a $200 limit this year as well.  In the past, we have both overdone to the tune of $500 or so.  We obviously needed to cut back in order to save for the honeymoon and a house.  I LOVE THE LIMIT.  It made me come up with smaller and more meaningful gifts instead of one big fancy gift which we usually do.

With all the saving up to do and the wedding being only 3 mos. away we put a limit of $50 for one another.  Usually we do about a $100 gift, since we both have large families, it's hard to get something big for one another.  We try to save that for our birthdays.

We usually just do smaller gifts as well.  Sometimes it'll be something bigger.  If it comes down to it and neither of us have gotten anything then we'll usually just go out and have a really nice date night and call the next few purchases for the house 'presents' to each other.  Guess it sounds a bit different but it works for us.

We normally spend about $300.  This year we spent about $100-125 because we're trying to save for the wedding.

With our wedding next summer, we've gone skimpy and have a $50-100 limit for each other.  We typically spend about $150 on each other though...poor grad students here!

this year our limit was $200... fi went over by a lil... ($400 he spent)

last year our limit was $300 fi went over by a lot... ($1600 he spent)

this year i spent $300, last year i spent $1000.

we've actually pretty extreme on our bday gifts as well: golf clubs, trip to vegas, tiffanys, etc...

but we've also skipped Christmas one year... and i think this year is the start to a budget abiding couple :) YAY to us

@whfields-there is alot you can do with your $50-100 limit. Ide go the cute personal route. : )

It varies every year depending on our finances but this year we bought each other a Wii and then we're doing separate gifts around $200 for each other.

Because of saving for the wedding, the only gift we are giving each other is that we are going halfsies on a Wii Fit. I don't know how much they cost though, so whatever the general cost for a Wii Fit and accessories is what our budget is for this year! :)

In the past we've usually spent 200-300 each.

This year I spent about $50 on him.  I'm not sure what he's spending on me- probably about the same.

We're expecting our first child any day now, so we want to keep spending in check.  (And I think he's gotten me a 'push present' to celebrate the baby's arrival).

What's the point in a limit if you don't stick to it?! =]

Our limit was $200 this year...after funding our own wedding (and knowing i have a bday in 6 weeks), we decided we don't need lots of stuff cuz we just went out and bought lots of stuff! It's amazing what you can do for $200 when you shop the sales early. I managed 7 presents for him with $200!

Bacon salt, two sweaters, some books, a pizza stone, a cookbook, some shave oil, body wash, and shampoo (good stuff from the salon)....hmm I think that's it!

Last year and for our latest birthdays before getting married,  we've done hundreds of dollars and went above and beyond, with hubby taking the lead. Now that the wedding is over and we are on a joint depleted account, we set a limit---$20. However, I actually spent $170. (It's reassuring to see that most people do a comparable amount  b/c I had no idea.)  I knew exactly what he wanted and even though it was more than our limit,  I knew I wanted to be the giver of a good gift, no  matter the cost , and bit the bullet.  I've been tempted to raise the amount in regard to my change of heart and spending but am trying to keep my greed at bay. :D I keep messing up and saying how broke I am now...and how I spent $150 that I don't have but I really don't want him to know anything yet.

I don't know if he will really stick to the limit. It will be nice to be surprised and I won't expect much. Seriously, he goes way overboard and I'd rather him take me guilt shopping after the fact . hahaaa. Truly, I just want him to love and be surprised at his present this year.

We should've scaled back considerably this year since we're still saving/spending for the wedding, but our last christmas was so pathetic since I didn't have a job, we both just wanted to buy crap.. Suffice it to say, we're on a money diet for the next six months.

we dont have a price point, we both know we cant afford anything too expensive.  we normally just give the same amount of gifts.  last year it was like 5 and this year its like 3 plus stocking stuff.  i got him pj pants, a monopod, and his favorite tv show on dvd plus, of course, stocking stuffers.

We set a limit of $150 this year.  We just got married 2 mths ago, so most of our presents to family were pictures, and photo albums.  I got him a coat, some shoes, a gift certificate to Lucky Jeans, and a few psp games.  Normally it's more like $300... but he always goes over- last year he got me a bunch of Amazing gifts!  We're trying to tone it down over the next year so we can do more saving....

Eeek! We're gonna sound like cheapskates compared to you guys. :o)
The last two years we agreed to not buy each other anything. But in our defense, we got married a 2.5 months after Christmas last year (so $$ went to wedding and such) and instead of buying each other gifts this year, we're going to Vegas for our anniversary. A gift for both of us.

we just got married a hot second ago, so we're not getting each other gifts :) We're having some QT that day, and sending gifts only to little brothers and nieces, late of course, since we just got back into town this weekend.  Usually we don't spend a lot on each other.  Last christmas we bought each other our wedding bands, so for a gifty-gift I think I got him a coffee machine or a DVD or something inexpensive.  We do tend to go more $$ on birthdays, though.  We spend on experiences vs. stuff.

We usually spend either $150 on eachother, OR we get one big gift for eachother that is more in the $300 to $500 range, BECAUSE FI's birthday is beginning of December, and mine is early February. That way we get the one big thing we want and just role it into one.

Like this year, he is getting a very nice outdoorsman GPS, and I am getting a dishwasher (yes, I actually want a nice one more than I want jewelry!). Often I would rather have one really nice thing than two smaller gifts, though last year I got UGGS and adore them.

I try to spend about $75 or so.  Our limit for our family members is $40 a piece--which makes our total Christmas bill about $650.
