We feed our 10lb pom royal canin and follow the feeding directions on the back of the bag according to it’s weight/activity so a 1 1/4 cup of food per day.

DiamondnLovey:  my 8 pound poodle/shih tzu mix gets about a half a cup a day and normally doesn’t even finish it all. Vet said she’s perfectly healthy so we leave it for her all day in case she is hungry but more times than not there’s some pieces left at the end of the day.

DiamondnLovey:  We feed our 10 pound dog 1/4 cups (heaping, not typically leveled), 2 times per day – so 1/2 cup per day.  He goes to dog daycare 3 times a week so he is quite active.  He was into the vet about 2 months ago, and she said he is exactly where he should be.  He is fed Pure Vida bison, grain free dry food.  I have heard numerous times that you should NOT go per the instructions on the bag as you would be over-feeding your dog….they want you to buy more so they tell you to feed your dog more than you should! I would think depending on the activity level, 1/2-3/4 cup a day would be good.  Keep an eye on his weight, is he is heavier than he should be, stick with 1/2, if he is looking too skinny, go to 3/4.

Ours is 12lbs & gets about 1/3 cup twice a day, but rarely finishes his morning meal.  We joke that he’s not a morning person because he let’s us sleep in like a champ most mornings [we’re off] & will let his food sit there til late morning haha.  We were just at the vet though about month ago & the vet said he seemed like he was a happy & healthy pup 🙂

DiamondnLovey:  I have a 19lb terrier mix and a 30 lb dachsund mix and my vet instructed me to feed them both 1/2 cup in the morning then 1/2 cup at night, that’s it! 1c each per day. I take them on 40 min hikes every other day. They are at a perfect weight 🙂

DiamondnLovey:  By watching her weight, I meant watch her size and shape, not necessarily how much she weighs.  10 pounds on a teeny tiny chihuahua who should actually be 6 pounds, is way too big, whereas 10 pounds on a dog who really should be 15 is way too small.  It’s more about the shape of the dog than the weight.  When you go into the vet, she will show you charts on what the shape of your dog should be, and she will be able to tell you whether you are feeding an appropriate amount or not.
