You still have some time! Don't panic yet. :-) Congrats on your engagement.
FI and I got engaged in March, we booked the venue (which comes with catering/lodging/cake/coordinator/bar) in June. Since then we had not done anything. I had gone dress shopping purely for research. We were waiting for my sister's wedding in Sept to pass before we dove into our planning. In addition to the venue we have started the save the dates (need to finalize and print), started the website, starting registering (want to get this done before the holidays/birthdays), and I bought my dress/veil/sash/shoes!
We still have to do some of the other big stuff....photography/videography, DJ, guest shuttle, hair/make-up, over flow hotel block, honeymoon registry, and bridal party attire.
Best of luck on your panning and enjoy your engagement!
I have TONS, TONS, TONS to do. Jeeze. It's kind of embarrassing. So far I have is a dress, shoes, my ring, and my accessories (shoes, bracelet, earrings, headband, etc.)
We had to completely change our plans for a July wedding. The finances just weren't there. So we're looking into restaurants instead of banquet halls and country clubs. Their timelines are a little different. In fact, they're saying that I'm looking too far in advance for a July wedding.
And since I'm about 8 hours from home, and FI is 3.5 hours from me, we can't plan until Christmastime. So I'll be planning in just a few months! Weeee! lol
So far I have:
Ceremony Venue
Reception Venue
Wedding Bands
Wedding Dress
Catering
Wine
We are currently working on our photographer :)
Still lots to do though!!!!
Almost Bridesmaid Dresses (they are picked out, but not bought)
I booked church, venue, dress, DJ and photographer. Having my bridemaids fitted this weekend and sending out save the dates within a month. Keep in mind wedding dress may take up to 4 to 6 months to get plus you need additonal time for alterations. When I went wedding dress shopping recently, came across bride to be who's weddings weren't until Sept 2013. Talking about planning ahead..LOL. Still have tons to do.
We have rings, venue, caterer, photographer, and officiant. We've had our engagement photo session and I'm currently working on save-the-dates using those photos. My fiance is supposed to be researching DJs. I'm still looking for a dress. I should probably start getting hotel blocks booked. After that, I'll probably look into the possibilities of a shuttle from hotel(s) to venue. Flowers and cake can wait a bit, I think.
I've got my dress, STDs, wedding and reception venue, table runners, chair sashes, BM bouquets, guest book, birdcage for cards, centerpieces, most of my favor jars, and the glassware for the candy buffet.
Well, it sounds like all of you ladies are ahead of me, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with things to do!
@SunnySquirrel: Thanks, I am enjoying it thus far! :)
I have so far:
My dress (well it's ordered!)
BM's dresses (may need to be altered)
venue (including table decor, candy buffet, chocolate favours, etc)
church & priest
photographer
band/DJ
cake
intivations (STDs have been sent already)
car
still need: all my accessories(shoes/veil etc.) and my FI's tux
my makeup / hair appointment
flowers
And there are probably some things I am forgetting at the moment!!
I got you beat.
I've been engaged for 11 MONTHS and we have literally nothing booked. It's a long story. I have "planned" out my dress (friend is a designer and making it custom for me), picked a venue, have a caterer in mind, pretty sure we're doing an iPod reception and DIY flowers, and that's about it. Seriously.
But I'm not freaking out. The more I think about it, the more I think it's kind of ridiculous that we all have been conditioned to believe that a wedding has to take a YEAR+ to plan. That's just kind of crazy to me. I mean, I get that vendors get booked out pretty far in advance, so it makes sense to try to book them as soon as possible, but the other stuff I just don't see how it would all need to be planned out SO far in advance. Plenty of people plan weddings within a 6 month engagement or less. Easily. I guess it's just what you make of it.
@littlemissmango: Oh, I totally agree that booking things so far in advance seems ridiculous (unless you WANT to!). I think I would've been happy with a longer engagement, but like you, I'm not sure how much I would've done in advance.
We got engaged in May and really put it into high gear to get as much done as we could over the summer. I am a full time grad student and teach full time, so its been a bit crazy. So far we have
*Venue-Church and a Reception Venue
*Dress (ordered it, but hasn't come in)
*DJ
*Caterer
*Cake
*Flowers (two separate people-one for personal flowers, and one for decorations)
*Day of Coordinator
*Groom/Groomsmen/Dad's Ties
*Videographer (we are super lucky to have a very talented friend)
*Hair (another talented friend!)
*Photography (took engagement photos, but still waiting to get them back)
We have a lot of left to do, but lots of the big stuff is booked. Next step is to look into hotel room blocks, Save-the-dates, Makeup, transportation (I want to do a trolley!) and whatever else.
As of today 11/2/2011, we have been engaged 5 months. We just booked the venue yesterday and 6 adjacent little cabins for us and some of our guests.
Here are my checks:
I have some photographers picked out, but I have some time before I have to choose one. I'm watching their work until then.
Well, since I wrote this post I've booked a photographer - progress! =)
We just set our venue/date a month ago for 7/7/2012. We got engaged in April (3!) and had many months of tirelessly trying to find the perfect venue.
Anyhow- we had our rings 2 months into the engagement. That and the ceremony are really all that matter, right?
Oh, and I have my dress, my shoes, the linens, the table settings, the centerpieces, etc I need to figure out the catering and the rentals. Probably should get on that stuff soon. STD's went out too already. Doing a wedding on a budget. And doing a lot of DIY. All you need to do is start the projects early on and you'll be good to go!! I'm mid signage right now. Stained them and going to leave them out all winter long for that distressed look. :)
Now that's plannning!!!
WOW I am super behind!
We haven't made any official and final plans but you can see the weding is in 7months and I haven't finalized anything. I mean we have pretty much chosen our venue just haven't reserved it yet. there are a few other things we have decided on but like I said not finalized/printed.
Please tell me I'm not SOL.... :(
We've been engaged since late November 2010 so we've had a lot of time to plan and pick vendors we like. I know I've got most of it together; now on to the smaller details in these next 6 months. Right now I have:
My dress/veil
BM dresses
BM Shoes/My Shoes
Church
Transportation
Photographer
Videography
Reception Venue/Catering
Rings
My jewelry
DJ
2/3 Center pieces and linens
Honeymoon planned
Ceremony Music hired
Ushers and flower girls/ring bearer asked
Flower girl dresses
Engagement Pictures done and STDs out
Photo Booth booked
Cake
Things are starting to fall in place! So far we have:
Officiant
Transportation
Venue - both reception and ceremony at the same place
Photographer
Penthouse booked for after party
Hair & makeup
Dress & accessories
Cake
Catering - we're doing it ourselves, plus we hired a chef
Wedding party picked out
Rings (well we have mine and his is picked out)
Honeymoon tentatively planned
Flowers
Picked colours and centrepieces, as well as general theme
Wine & beer
Menu
Still need to:
Bridal party attire - my grandma is making BM dresses so I just need to pick a fabric and each BM is picking a pattern they like.
All my DIY projects
Reserve rental stuff (linens, plates)
Videographer
Playlist
Games for reception
Plans for cocktail hour (thinking bocce ball, cornhole, croquet and maybe even a scavenger hunt!)
Agh. This makes me nervous! I feel like I have all the MAJOR things done (dress, venue/caterer, officiant, band, invites, florist), but I'm missing a lot of the smaller parts.
I still need to:
-Make the last BM find a dress
-Make FI decide on his tux and finish off GM attire
-Figure out music what the BP comes down the aisle to
-Plan the menu with the caterer
-Pick a cake design with the baker
-Plan activities for the honeymoon
-Figure out the ceremony with the officiant!
-Get the invites addressed
-Book a hotel for the night after the wedding/before the honeymoon
-Uhhh book my flight to my wedding which is in my home state!!!
-Book someone for hair/makeup
And these are just the things I feel behnd on....

So I've only been engaged about a month and a half, and I don't have a lot done yet. (Read: have only booked a venue.) I know time is of the essence, but I'm also juggling being a full-time student with wedding planning.
Please tell me I'm not the only one with SO MUCH left to do?!
