I LOVEEE It! haha I just found this out about 2 years ago. I just asked my mom to make it and bring it. We eat at my grandparents and I'm the only one who ever eats any! more for me i guess!
I voted I love it, I eat tons of it... but I lied a little bit. I love it, like really really love it, but I eat it once a year because for some reason I never make it! I need to correct this..... :)
I've only had it once. My SIL brought it to one of the first Thanksgivings she attended with our family. My mother looked at the onion things like they were dirt being put on the green beans. Poor SIL! She is so sweet and awesome while my mother is so prim and proper.
SIL never brought it again.
I'm allergic to mushrooms, so I don't eat it! But if I wanted it , I suppose I could use a different kind of soup....
I prefer vegetables crisply cooked and served on their own, not mixed with sauces, soups, cheese, etc.
I don't think I've ever even seen it. Maybe someone brought it once when I was a kid, but I don't remember ever having tried it.
Green bean casserole is my FAVE holiday dish! But I hate mushrooms. So... I make it with cream of potato soup instead. (I've also heard cream of celery works.) And yes to the extra onion rings!
I don't. It ruins green beans. I like vegetables closest to their natural form as possible.
Love it!! I make it throughout the year, too. Not just at the holidays. So easy to make and oh so good.
I don't like green beans. This is my first thanksgiving with the in-laws and I'm curious to see if it will be on the table.
I think green beans casserole is majorily gross but I will force down a small spoonful in order not to insult my host. Since I am hosting this year you won't find it on my table :) I like my green beans au natural
@julies1949: This!! I hate green bean casserole. It looks disgusting too. Blech!
LOVE IT. I remember when they first printed the recipe on the cambells can (damn I am old) I insisted that my mom try it, OMG, best choice ever.
Take it or leave it.
I would not make it for myself but if it's there I'll take a spoonful to be polite.
Green Bean Casserole is not a standard at our holidays.
No green beans for me, please! It's the one vegetable that my mother really, really loved to eat year-round, so I've had my fill for a lifetime.
I'm straying from the cream of mushroom soup version and trying this one tomorrow!

@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: Me too. Especially with green things... I can't stand broccoli soup either.
Never had it. lol But since I hate green beans I doubt I would like it.
I like it, but last year I stumbled on a variation that is now required at holiday gatherings, although w/ fresh mushrooms added and no cheese:

I eat it. Not a real traditional holiday side dish in my New England family until our kids were born, because my mom was trying to find something for the grandkids to eat. So they thought it was a NE tradition.
Holiday musts:
"Root" or Fall vegetables
Turkey (except my DH is allergic to it)-so not for us. :(
Pumpkin Pie
Stuffing
Cranberry sauce
I fuckin' LOVE green bean casserole. But ONLY the stuff my grandma (or aunt, depending on who's cooking) makes. I've tried plenty of other peoples' green bean casseroles and they just weren't the same. My grandma (or aunt) has the magic touch, I guess.
I've been obsessed with the stuff ever since I was old enough to eat solid food. It's just not a Thanksgiving/Christmas without it. Unfortunately since I started dating FI we have done 3 Christmases and 4 Thanksgivings with his family and only one Christmas with mine (his fam is all local, mine is all reeeeeally far away in multiple locations) so I've been extremely deprived of my beloved casserole the past 3+ years. His mom and his aunt both make their versions of it, but it's seriously not anywhere near the same.
I love green bean casserole. But I only eat it once or twice a year (either Thanksgiving or Christmas, or both). I actually didn't start eating it until a few years ago because I thought it looked gross, but I finally decided to try making it and loved it.
I've never really had it... we always had broccoli casserole growing up, which is yummy in my tummy.
A casserole is really the only way I'll eat green beans and even then I don't really like it.
Green beans just aren't my vegetable.
Love it! I make it several times a year, not just for holidays. (I don't use canned soup, I make my own cream of mushroom soup from scratch to use. Next time I'm going to try to make my own fried onions too, Alton Brown did it on one of his shows.)

I can put away half a casserole on my own (well, at least I think I could, I've never tried but I WANT TO hahahaha). SO. GOOD. I make it with fresh green beans and extra fried onions on the top. NOMNOM.
Does anyone know if this is an American thing? I've never even seen one, other than on tv. I can't vote in your poll :(
I don't really care for green beans, but it's a texture thing so I would be willing to try it.
@Kant: Do you have your grandma's recipe? Why don't you make it and bring it for the next holiday at your DH's family's house. Then you can have the good stuff! :)

There are only three must-haves for every Thanksgiving:
-green bean casserole
-stuffing
-pecan pie
I make green bean casserole at least once a month, probably twice for DH and I. I LOVE it, especially with extra fried onions on top. So, how much do you like it?
