If you don't mind sharing of course! You can obviously give a range if you aren't comfortable sharing the exact amount. This is totally anonymous, too you don't have to post if you don't want. Also, where do you live and what do you do?
I'm just curious to know what is average nowadays, of course using a totally unscientific study.
I make less than I would like. :)
I work in marketing in the Philly suburbs.
I'll share, but no one try to call me out on who I am if you personally know me! Haha! I am an insurance underwriter and make $96K. Just for personal reasons I am hoping to break 6 figures with my bonus this year, that would be such an accomplishment!
I make about 25K a year before taxes. However, I do have federal student loans to help pay for tuition. Let me tell you, I look forward to the time when we won't live paycheck to paycheck!
Been out of college working for 11 years..
I'm an SVP, Executive Group Director at an advertising agency. I make $155K.
@Jenn23: Haha, don't we all!!
@lilyfaith: I just started NOT living paycheck to paycheck with my new job after doing it for 6 years so I do understand. Now the focus is on saving, but of course it is SO HARD!!
@lauren810c: Awesome, I love to hear about successful women 'in the city', go you! Of course we are all successful, but I lOVE to stick it to the man! :)
I'm a government attorney, I make slightly over 100K. Definately the primary breadwinner in my household!
@AudzinLuv: Actually a study showed that a stay-at-home mom is worth the equivalent of over $250K/year. I believe it! I sit at a desk all day and crunch numbers. You are probably busier than a 1 armed hanger wearing multiple hats 24/7!
I'd be around the $0 range. Grad student! My husband is a law student. So we get odd jobs and all. But basically its paycheck to paycheck. And by that, I really mean, paycheck to see-a-paycheck-two-years-from-now.
I'll bite! I am one year out of school and I make 50K as an entry-level engineer. I'm hoping to break into 6 figures once I can work up to a management role (not for a long time)!
I'm serving in AmeriCorps this year, so I make a poverty line salary. My fiance has a "real" job, though, so we do fine. :)
I'm a college grad in my first paralegal roll and make about 25k after bonuses. The salaries go up the more experience I have, so I'm paying my dues.
I work in Regulatory Affairs for a medical device company (little over a year out of school with an engineering degree). We're basically the liason between the company and the government. I make about $56K a year.
wow so many of you are so sucessful!!
I make just over $35k a year as an administrative assistant. I work for a worldwide non-profit organization that almost every country has :) Take a guess!
I also make $18/hour doing respite care as a side job and babysit several families for $10/hour. Both are to help pay for the wedding!
Luckily my FI makes more than triple what I do otherwise I'd be out on the streets!
i am a waitress and make about 25-27 k a year.... thank goodness the army pays for my college! hopefully ill graduate soon and get a job as a nurse!
@AudzinLuv: i would love to be a stay at home mom someday! fi actually says its in his 5 year plan haha! (he makes wayyyyyyy more than me obviously!)
@stephanie63087: Are you in the army? I think it's awesome they pay for college, anyone who serves in the armed forces totally deserves it! :)
@Mrs. Alias: the army national guard :) i agree! i would not be able to afford it if they didnt pay haha!
lol I think the maybe more telling question is... how much do you make in RELATION to your student loans. :) My extended family seems to think my FI and I are loaded due to our jobs (attorney and corporate accountant) and our assumed high salaries... but they never realize how much we had to go into debt to get those salaries!
I work for an awesome, nationwide, nonprofit family planning organization!
I make $30K per year before taxes working for the state of Pennsylvania in Early Intervention. I love my job, but they literally pay me the poverty line. So glad mom and dad spent $100K on my education...
I'm a student and plan to be a student for a while...going for my CPA and MACC! O.o I work seasonally for a whopping $10.00 an hour at a garden.
I work as an information analyst for state government in southwest Virginia. I make about $32,000 before taxes. Just under a quarter of my take home pay is spent paying off student loans.
I work in Social Services and make about 37K before taxes. I like the comment about income compared to Student Loans. My student loans are well over what I make in a year. . .thank goodness for super low consolidated interest rates.
I work part-time in retail.... enough said. I dont think I have to say how much I make, because its embarassing.
After graduation, I (hopefully but who knows in this economy) will be a high school teacher. The salary range for that for a first-year teacher is anywhere from $35k-$45k, at least in my area.
@zippylef: I worked in retail as a student too and I always wondered how it was even legal for them to pay us so little! That was a rough job and I felt bad for people who were supporting their entire families on that pay. It made me really appreciate retail employees a lot more!
Right now I am a kindergarten teacher in a private school, and that plus a part time job puts me around 20K before taxes. FI is in school, but also works 30+ hours a week, so between the two of us we're around 35K.
I am REALLY hoping to have a full time public school teaching job next year. Working paycheck to paycheck is not a fun time... but it sure keeps life interesting! :)
I really make less than it seems since I'm a contractor and have no insurance, benefits or leave. I don't even get paid for holidays! I have to make up my hours the rest of the week or take a loss on that paycheck. My salary is 42K if I don't take days off.
I am a GIS technician at a major SE power company. My contract was originally for 6 months but I've been extended for 1.5 years so far!
@CorgiTales: Can I get an "Amen?"
If I have to hear about "rich attorneys" one. more. time. I may start carpet bombing our families with our student loan statements.
@Rgeddy: I hear you, those are important things to factor in as well either way. That stinks you don't get paid for Holidays! I do, but there are so few that my company actually recognizes now, it's like 4 or 5 a year. Xmas, New Years, Tgiving, Labor Day and Memorial day. I also get health insurance but my premiums have gone up so high it's way more than I would pay out of pocket if I just paid cash as I went.
I own my own business in Los Angeles and take in about 80,000 before I pay a ton in federal and state and city tax. I am also my only employee and work my butt off! :-)
@Ryansgirl - I can't guess (honestly)
You say you make 35k plus you have 2 side jobs? Wow... I'd hardly say you'd be "out on the streets" if it weren't for FI! That seems like a very respectable income for just one person.
@teaadntoast: LMAO lets do it!! I was home for my cousin's birthday party and was being asked about the wedding. I mentioned how I was getting a friend to DOC for me because I didn't want to spend $500+ on a DOC or wedding planner (at the low end) and my other cousin was like "ummm did you forget that you're a lawyer?"
sigh. lol. She got her undergrad degree while commuting from home and her company paid for her to get her MBA, so I don't think she has ANY concept of what having 120k in student loans (80- mine, 40- FI's) is like.
@teaadntoast: and Corgitales - I totally hear you. I actually dated a lawyer who made $150K as his startnig salary but he was broke as a joke. We met b/c I was trying to sublet out my apartment so I posted a craigslist ad and I remember looking at his offer letter wondering what the HECK he was doing answering my ad! He was paying off student loans too from law school.
@Rgeddy: I'm working as a private contractor right now as well but it's for a videogame. I'm about to lose my health insurance because I don't have the money to go back to school and I refuse to take out loans I know I won't be able to pay back.
I make about $5000 a year. x__x
@CorgiTales: Agreed! I make about $50K with only a few grand in student loans. FI however spent 4 years at a top tier private school and two years in grad school, so his 6-figure salary seems to disappear pretty quickly after his loan payments are due!
@Ms. MoxieMonkey: Woah, go you!! That is awesome, do you realize you are totally living the dream? Ugh, I sooo want to start up an image consulting business, but I just wonder who would spend the $ on that in this economy..
