If I had taken the health care my job offered it would have cost me $100 every 2 weeks but I really could not afford that. I declined and have no health insurance until the FI and I say our I Dos.
I pay $54 biweekly, so roughly $108 per month. It's just for me and it's really good coverage. My vision and dental are separate and my husband is covered on those and I pay $12/mth for vision and $30/mth for dental. To add him to my insurance it almost quadruples the price. His insurance is a tad cheaper than mine; to add me is an extra $50/mth but then there is a $600 fee they apply as well to cover a spouse.
My employer covers it all. Before that, we were on my fiancé's employer's "family plan" (if we had kids they'd have also been included) which was $90/month. It covered everything the government doesn't, such as prescriptions, eye care, dental, etc.
Ours is like $120/mo for both of us and that is good healthcare + vision + dental. I feel very fortunate because before I was married and on my husband's insurance I paid 110/mo for just myself for really shitty health insurance with no vision or dental.
I have single coverage through my employer and the high option. I pay 80 biweekly plus 10 biweekly for dental and vision.
My company pays 100% of mine, but I also work in medical billing. Do not ever forgo medical insurance, you're only 1 accident away from being bankrupt.
For medical dental and vision I pay $150 biweekly...that covers me and my DD.
DH and I are lucky because we each have jobs that pay for our HI. We just had a meeting a work about how much it costs to add people, but I can't remember since it doesn't apply to me, yet. I think it's a around 150ish/month to add a child.
I do pay for an AFLAC Cancer Policy out of my paycheck and it's around 29/month for DH and myself. DH and I both have a family history of cancer so wanted to be prepared. I'll start my maternity policy through them probably in July before we start TTC.
I don't have health insurance, but FI has insurance through his work. They take almost $50 out a week, so about $200 a month just for him. But seeing everyone else's prices I'm going to talk to him about trying to find something cheaper.
DH is on my insurance and I pay $86 per week for health and dental (we work for the same company and he's going to be resigning at some point). That equates to $344 per month. Our coverage isn't even that good. I can't wait until DH switches jobs and our HI is free.
Ours is around $230 a month through DH's company. That is for him, myself and our daughter. It's a 100% coverage, $0 deductable plan with medical, dental, prescription and vision. We do have $15 copays for doctors visits that aren't routine care. Everything is covered at 100%. DH thinks it's spendy but I used to work in the insurance industry and know that it's an awesome deal. Their maternity benefits are even better. You pay one $15 copay at your 1st doctor appt and then all other appts, hospital stays, c-section, whatever is covered at 100%. They also give you like $300 towards a car seat, buy you a breast pump etc. When we have another child he could even take 3 months paternity leave fully paid and stay home with me. My favorite part is the dental because so few companies even offer it anymore. In the last few months I've gotten a bunch of fillings, a wisdom tooth removed, a cleaning and am scheduled for a root canal and crown plus getting another wisdom tooth out. We won't pay a penny, not even a copay. Love it! Also we're already on the family plan so our rate won't increase when we add future children. It did go up quite a bit when DH added me on. He was only paying about $120 a month for himself and our daughter.
@7-9-11bride: wow, that sounds like such great coverage. I'm jealous, lol
@futureMrsMason: It's an awesome company to work for. He bitches all the time and has no clue how spoiled he is with benefits. He has like 20 personal days a year, probably at least 4 weeks vacation. Every holiday paid plus if you work on that holiday it's like triple time or something crazy. Fully matched 401k contribution, they pay his life insurance, he can pretty much get unlimited overtime. This last year he took off 3 full weeks in July for our wedding/honeymoon, a week in Aug for a friend's wedding, another week in Sept for my bday, then he had like 5 days in Oct for his bday. All paid for. He's always looking to switch careers and I'm like nope sorry you have to stay there, lol.
Back when I was working I got one paid week off a year, 4 sick days and they wanted me to pay over $200 a month for healthcare just for myself on a crap plan with a $3000 deductible, no thanks.
@7-9-11bride: wow, it sounds like he has it made! haha. I WISH I (or even FI) had a job like that!
I'm self-employed, and therefore self-insured, until we get married and I mooch of FI's.
I pay $41/month for the most basic health insurance. I have a higher deductible and pay WAAAAAAAY more for my NuvaRing (still partially covered, though), but my lower payments make up for it. Ive been very lucky with my health - I'm not sick often and basically only have insurance for catastrophic health-related events for the time being.
I no longer have vision or dental, either. I took advantage of my corporate benefits before I left my previous job and got new glasses and a dental cleaning, and until I get back on dental I take very good care of my teeth. :)
We each pay $120/month for medical, dental and vision. We work for the same university and it's cheaper to keep our plans seperate than combine.
I think mine is ~$80 per paycheck (biweekly) for health and dental so somewhere around $160/month. FI bought private insurance because it was cheaper and better than what his job offers and I think he pays around $300 a month. Eventually he'll probably hop on my insurance. It'll still be expensive, probably around the same price he pays now, but it's better coverage.
$190 bi-weekly (about $400/month) for family coverage (myself, Mr. LK, teen LK) for our PPO with vision & dental, too. It's one of the most expensive options offered through our employer, but Mr. LK likes having the freedom to see any doctor he wants.
I pay $20 a month for my health insurance. Maybe it's so cheap because i'm a nurse?
We pay $8 per hour paid (double time days we paid $16 per hour and time and a half days we paid $12 per hour worked) for insurance. Last year that was $1600 per month for the three of us, and the coverage was -eh, ok at best. This year we will be under his new companies insurance and we will pay $400 per month, but that includes everything and we pretty much have to pay for nothing. Eyes, dental, life, ltc, all included. Actually very excited about have cheap good insurance.
Holy crap. These are really low. I'm stilll covered by my parents' insurance (so is FI) but once we're married, if he doesn't get HI through his job, we're on our won since I'm in school and part time employees don't get benefits... and it would be $450 a month for us from my research! That doesn't even include dental or eye care. Can anyone who pays for HI that isn't included in your job elaborate on how you found a cheaper HI?
@galloway111: FI shopped around quite a bit before he decided to go with Aetna.
Wow, seems like all of you bees have amazing and low cost health care! I had to get my own insurance and for moderate coverage (not really good but not bad) for just medical (no vision, dental, etc.) for myself it's about $200 per month. That's my current plan and the pricing/coverage is about the same for similar plans from other insurance companies when I looked in to it a little while ago. :( I guess bad, slightly expensive insurance, is still better than nothing. Which is actually what my husband has (or doesn't have). But in a month and a half his company will start paying for part of his health insurance coverage so you better believe we'll get him insurance.
I pay $20 be-weekly for my health coverage. I work for a dental insurance provider so my dental is free. I have to say I think it's a pretty good deal! My last job I paid almost $70 bi-weekly for worse coverage.
And I have to agree with not going without if you can help it. It sucks paying it, but you really are only an illness or accident away from being bankrupt. I never realized how true this was until my dad got sick in Feb and didn't have health insurance. He eventually got Medicaid but it was only retro-active so far. My step-mom now has over $400,000 in medical bills to pay and thats for only one month of not being covered by Medicaid. : (
We Canadians like to brag that our healthcare is free, but it's really not. We do pay for it in higher income tax and sales tax than the US. You tend not to notice because the $$ are deducted from your paycheque before you see it, or added to purchases at the till.. MSP only provides certain coverage however- not meds, eyelasses, dental etc.
We each have coverage through our employers for the things that MSP doesn't cover. If we go over the limits for glasses or dental on our own insurance, we can pay the balance then recover it on our partner's plan, so we have no out of pocket expenses.
@JennH516: I'm a nurse too, so I dont think that is why! :) I am jealous you only pay $20 though!
@julies1949: I was curious how our insurance payments differ from Canada's. I'm glad you answered!
I pay $24 a month in medical insurance. It's awful insurance though. I pay $43 a month for my BC. I need to shop around for a better quote. I get $150/month from my company so I have to pay the difference
Thank you so much for all of the responses!
@galloway111: I know! Ours is WAY more! It is $300 a month starting today, and DH gets it through a major insurance provider he works for- but that is way too much for us- plus it is a huge deductible... I think we won't keep it after this month. Sigh. Hence the research.
$280/month which covers myself and my son; got it through my state bar association (professional organization) - it is half what my employer would have charged me!

What do you pay per month for HI out of pocket (before medical bills/ not counting medical bills)? And how many people does that cover? I am curious to see...
