How much do you spend on makeup?

@figgnewton:  I do the smokey eye thing sometimes. I’m not sure how to answer your question, though. I mean, I have all my basics. When I shop for makeup I do it at Sephora and I get replacements for my basics and maybe I’ll grab something new. I usually shop in store to see what’s new but buy online, so usually I spend $50 to get the free shipping. So… $50? But that’s not, like, getting all the smokey eye stuff at once and on every trip. Once you have it, you’re good for a long while.

I want to do something like this for my wedding makeup.

I don’t have enough time/patience to do it for everyday makeup.

lol about a hundred dollars every five months or so when I’m feeling ambitious, like makeup is something I could do regularly.  Its the Jeneane Goroffalo scene from The Truth About Cats and Dogs at the Macy’s MAC counter every time.

I think its all about balance. If you want to get started without breaking the bank, I’d definitely recommend splurging on products like foundation (I like MAC, around $30-40), eye primer (urban decay about $20), and concealer (NARS $24); and then get some cheaper drug store brands for eyeliner, shadow, mascara, & gloss.

You can build your collection on these things when you have more spare cash, but I personally believe its important to invest in something you’re putting on your skin every day. You have to live in it for the rest of your life! Don’t cover it in low quality goop!

also check out pixiwoo on youtube, I love them.

I pretty much only buy drugstore brands.  I’ll occasionally try fancy department store makeup and find that it almost never lives up to my expectations.  thankfully I’m not shy about returning this stuff.

so, each of the items I buy usually cost around $5-10.

Once you have makeup it’s not like you have to buy it all that often. Sephora is a great place to buy makeup. Their “Sephora” brand is really good (a lot cheaper than some of the other brands they carry). I definitely splurge when it comes to stuff like eye shadow. I buy Urban Decay Primer Potion so it stays put, and I love their Naked palette. I also love Dior eye shadow. I like Clinique for CC cream (like tinted moisturizer), and for their mascara. You can find most good brands at Sephora.

@figgnewton:  On any normal day, I wear moisturizer, primer, foundation, concealer, and then I set everything with powder before adding blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara.  I love makep, its part of my routine, and I go through a lot of it!  Minus buying new things that I just want to try, I would say I spend around $100 every month and a half on makeup.

@figgnewton:  Sephora sells a lot of very high quality makeup. It isn’t cheap- in quality nor in price!

Keeping your makeup on your face all day is more than just buying the right eyeshadow. I mean, that’s important, but you’re also going to want primer to help it stick. You want to make sure your face is nice and clean so there isn’t oil eating away at the makeup. When I’m going out, I set it with finishing spray, too.

Sephora is fun. Go in and they’ll help you figure out what is good for you! I use Smashbox Photo Finish Lite primer all over my face. Then I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance for my eyes. My setting spray is UD All Nighter but there are tons out there.

@figgnewton:  I’ve never tried their mascara, but I’ve used eyeshadow from the Body Shop and it’s not too bad. It sounds to me like you might need a primer more than anything.

Between skin care and makeup… when I go to stock up every couple of months.. oh, about a few hundred bucks.
