I’m pretty conservative when buying gifts for friends and try to keep it around, but not much more than $30. With family/ SO  its usually $50-$120.

Hm, my vote would’ve been $15, but there was no option so I chose $20-30.  $20 would be the max.

It’s rare that I buy birthday gifts for anybody but my best friends or family, but if I get together with somebody for their birthday I might pick up a bottle of wine or some flowers, or pick up he tab for lunch or drinks but usually in the $20.00 range.

It really depends on how close the friend is to me. If they’re really close I will spend whatever it takes to get them something amazing…but that’s only like 3 people. Most friends will get a smaller gift. Especially because lots of my friends are still in grad school, I wouldn’t want to make them feel guilty if they couldn’t afford to reciprocate on my birthday.

I send cards, but otherwise, I pretty much stopped buying friends gifts unless

    a) we’re really really close AND

    b) it’s a milestone year (30, for example)

    OR

    c) friend had a big party (in which case, the “gift” would probably be a bottle of wine and a card)

Part of this is because between the weddings and the baby gifts, I’m sort of tapped out.

I rarely buy birthday gifts for nonfamily. Usually I take friends out for dinner and drinks.

It really depends on how close I am to the person. My group of friends and I usually settle on a limit though, usually no more than $40. But I have gone over a little for my best friend if I knew it was something she really wanted or needed.

Probably in the $20-$30 range.  Although we don’t often do birthday gifts for friends.  We just take them out to a nice dinner/drinks or something.
