Funny I was just thinking about this this morning and how much I spend on everyone. I control our budget and my husband really doesn’t care about Christmas shopping or budgets or what we spend etc. I realized when I told my sister in law that my budget for each parent is 50.00 this year, that that is true, except for my mom. Who I spend probably 200 on. Probably not fair but, oops!!!

Anyway, I have had to reign in my budget a lot the last few years especially this year since we are expecting and have more important things to save for, but  here we go:

my dad, step mom, and DH’s parents: 50.00 each

my mom: 150 or so plus stocking stuffers

close family friend who used to date my mom but doesn’t anymore but is very generous towards us and is part of the family (lol): 100

4 siblings total: 35 each this year usually 50

2 step siblings: out of the country so I get a break on that

Nephew: 50

best friends new baby: 30

god daughter: 30

husbands relatives gift exchange: 20.00 gift from each of us to participate

DH: no idea yet!! 200 or less I think

@Barbiestylez:  yeah and my parents got dicorced when I was 12, so I’ve been trying to supplement her Christmas for so long I still do. We started filling her stocking and buying multiple gifts so she had more than one. She has never remarried. But now with Ed in the family (the long story above lol) she’s more than spoiled. I should give her slippers. And call it good!!

This year was a little different;

Neices/Nephews: 30.00 each.
Adult Secret Santa: 65.00 each.
Dogs: 40.00
Kid: Combined around: 400.00
Each other: 400.00
Friends kids: 15.00 each, there’s about 5 of them.

Normal budget:
Neices/Nephews: total 25-30 each.
Adult couple units: 50.00 each
Dogs: 30.00 for both
Kid: 200.00 for me, around 300.00 for FI.
FI: 200.00 ish. He usually spends more on me. I’m not sure how much.

My parents, SO’s parents, SO’s sister (combined gift for her and her husband), and each other.

We generally do not buy gifts for my siblings or our nieces and nephews (who already get more than enough from parents and grandparents) or anyone else because it’s simply too expensive. Instead, we bake cookies or make candy and give it out with cards to everyone.

How much we spend depends on what we can afford each year. It’s never been more than $700 all combined.

@Barbiestylez:  I’m still bugging people for lists. I’ve got about half the lists I need so I’m still debating if I should go today or wait until I have lists for everyone. I love wrapping presents but I hate going out in the crowds and cold to buy stuff. I wish people I knew used amazon! That sounds easier!

@Barbiestylez:  This is usually the general budget I set since I am the one who shops for everyone but I always end up going over with FI!

Mom/Dad = $40 each MAX from me plus a $10 gift from FI as we aren’t marrried yet and it seems thoughtful

Sister = $40

FI = $200 (steadily climbs every year for some reason – but his for mine is always about $50 under mine for him…)

Friends = $10 each (yet they never seem to buy a single thing for us)

FI Mom = $10 (she never gives us anything while my parents always give FI and myself stuff)

FI Grandmother = $10 (she also never gives anything to either of us)

Over half of the people I buy for never buy us anything ever so they get slapped with $10 which is enough to buy a candle set, chocolate or a nice ornament. There has been so many times I’ve wanted to just not get any of them anything but I feel that isn’t in the spirit of Christmas and I give what I can anyways.

I always like to keep it under $600 per year because once it exceeds a month of rent I feel like it’s too much.

@Barbiestylez:  that’s sweet of you! I used to do that- but no one would ever send a gift- even a thank you card back- so I stopped spending money.

This year, I made apple butter and strawberry jam gift baskets, and these are going to my sisters and their husbands, my parents, an aunt, an uncle, and to my sweetheart’s side of the family as well.

My sweetheart, I am spending $400 on.

I don’t spend much mainly because I feel like the holiday should be more about spending time with family and not about giving gifts. I typically make something small for people. This year I will be baking. My husband and I have never been big on gifting one another. Though, if I were in a better position I would probably give him the biggest gift. With that said, it would likely be well under $100.
