That is such a gorgeous cake...depending on the layers, flavors and size...we ordered a basic round cake with three layers, apx 75/slice from a grocery store and it's about $200, which puts it at about $2ish a slice...a cake with more intricate art work will probably be closer to $5-8/slice, to be conservative.
Number one- That cake is beautiful!
Numbert two- We paid just above $500 for our cake. Ours was 3 tiers of 100 cupcakes and the fourth tier was a two layer white cake filled with cream cheese.
Ribbons, icing, custom cake stand and cake topper included. Nothing intricate with the exception of alternating white (filled with cream cheese) and chocolate (filled with raspberry mousse) cupcakes and fondant on the top.
Number 3- Your best bet is to call your bakery of choice and show them a picture of it to get a quote. I explained the above to our baker and she gave me a complete price then and there.
I hope that helps somewhat.
Good luck!
That is gorgeous!! I would guess, conservatively, $600-800, depending on local pricing. Let us know what you find out!
Oh my goodness, that cake is gorgeous! I think the cost would really depend on the area you live in. I really hope you can find someone that can do it in your budget because it's just stunning!
Beautiful cake! But do you really see peacocks on the bottom? I see what looks some kind of raised paisley design.
@ rachel leigh- I also see a paisley design, no peacocks. I think it is 3 tiers (not 4), by the way. The bottom part looks like it's just a ribbon wrapped around the cake board.
As far as the cost, I would estimate between 600 & 800, but that largely depends on where you get you cake from and what are you're in.
Wow.. you guys should have seen the cakes of the places that were quoting me $600. I would have expected to pay $800-1000 for a cake like that. Better call a bakery to find out!
I see paisley too. I don't know why you'd have giant dragonflies and tiny peacocks, but that's just me. Either way, it IS a pretty cake. My much simpler cake cost about $550, so I would think one that intricate would cost more than that. How much more would depend on the area you live and who you can find with that kind of talent.
From the baker we used, granted she was just on Oprah, a cake like that would have cost around $1600-2000.
Since most of the cost of a fancy cake depends on the intricacy of the detailing, and since that is incredibly intricate and precision-detailed, I'd definitely expect it to cost more than $1000. I'd think between $1200 and $2000 somewhere, for sure. You're not going to get super-fancy sculptural lattice-like, lace-like work on a cake just anywhere; it's going to be a major pro.
I make specialty cakes and I don't hink you will find this for less than $1000, I think more in the range of 1200-2000. It is far too intricate and time consuming.
Alot. The fondant itself is labor intensive and expensive on its own. The intricate detailing will only add to the price as that requires even more work involved. You won't know what the price is until you ask for a quote from local bakers.
The bottom looks like a ribbon.
This all depends where you go. Only a bakery who specializes in wedding cakes & fondant/gumpaste work could pull this off with it looking like a cake wreck.
A 3 tier fondant covered cake w/ gumpaste dragonflies & intricate panels...I think you're looking at atleast $9-10 a slice.
that would have too cost at least $500. I love it I absolutely love it,
They are the colours I want !
I see the peacocks in the ribbon around the cake plate! lovely colours, if you used ribbon around the tiers of cake instead of the iced stencils it would bring the price down alot through reduced work hours. You could add simple fondant decor like dots, swirls, flowers etc to dress up the ribbon. Be sure to look at the bakers photo books when you visit them, they all have unique ideas and you may find some who have done peacock designs before or know where to source materials inyour theme! all the best!
I just read my post... and I need to edit something! ahh :)

I still think its going to cost a small fortune. Gumpaste work is time consuming & therefore very costly!
I think that cake looks like it is just a plain blue fondant cake. And then they added some cardboard trim (like the stuff that the cupcake wrappers are made out of), beads, and dragonfly decorations.
If that is the case, it shouldn't be too hard to find a bakery that can just ice a cake with fondant and then add the trim and adornments. I'd still say you are looking at $4/serving at least. I'd expect to pay $600+. And since it is an odd shape it might be even more. Could you go with a round cake instead of octagonal? It would be easier for the baker at least and there'd be less of a chance of a cake wreck!

Alright Hive,
First serious problem of my wedding has arrived...
My theme is Art Nouveau, colors are light blue, gold, brown, and pink, with a peacock image on both the invites and STD's.
I have had the HARDEST time finding any cake that makes me really swoon...until now. See the image below...See the colors? The interesting shape? The fantastic PEACOCKS on the bottom tier? I lost my breath, really.
But, how much do you think a fantastic piece of art like that costs? Keep in mind I would have it be three tiers instead of four...
Please respond...I need your help!
