Try posting this in your local boards to get more accurate responses. I live outside DC and a DJ here can easily go for $1500-2,000 for the night.
I'm about two hours from your general venue area, and DJs quoted me between $700 and $2500 (yes, really). That was for about 4 hours, and both ceremony and reception. Although that was from the Baltimore market, not the Philly market.
I would hop on weddingwire or another place and check out reviews, and then just shotgun inquiries with your criteria (what you're looking for in a DJ, length of time, etc) and compare rates that way. Local boards are also a great idea.
Same. I think our DJ is about 1095 for... 6 hours I think. But I'm also in the Baltimore area. You might try asking some of your other vendors. They may have some insight.
I'm in the Midwest, and DJs can range from $400 for 4 hours to $1500 for 4 hours.
While that can make it hard to pinpoint a cost, it also means that you can likely set a budget and find a DJ who works within that budget, as prices vary so much.
It depends. Mine is costing us $500 for 5 hours. He's done my mom's yearly halloween party for years and is just fine but is perhaps more amateur than other DJs. The DJ wasn't exactly a huge priority for me... as long as someone is playing music I'm happy.
thanks for the help everyone! i posted again in the delaware boards, but people dont generally post there regularly. i think ill probably look for someone around or (hopefully) under 1000.
Ours is going to play from 630 to midnight. He is doing uplighting, music and will take 75 pics and post them online for $650!
WOW. I didn't realize how much other brides spent on DJs! I could not justify paying them $1000 just to play music for 4 hours. Our original DJ was $800 for 4 hours and he had to back out out a few months before our wedding, and we found another one for $600 that included lighting and mc'ing who did an excellent job. My friend who's getting married in a few months got one for $400.
Our is $750 + tax. Includes cocktail hour, dinner music, MC, and special ceiling lighting.
@atalante: and @colli459: I'm a 2013 bride outside the Baltimore area (Hunt Valley/Phoenix, specifically), and I'm starting to look at DJs - did you book DJs already, and did you come across anyone great that you wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks :)
We are paying $1,800.00 and that's for 6 hours plus MC services for the evening.
@WoodenShoes: We are getting married in Philly, our DJ is $900. We LOVE our DJ and can send you more information if you want! PM me for details!
We paid $750 in cash during the off season - it was worth it, he was amazing. During the summer, it would have been double.
in some cases, if you dont have a wedding coordinater for the reception, a dj that that is a certified wedding planner can help. the good ones are. thats 1500+ but it also makes your reception.
Our DJ will be upwards of 700$ and the one who will be there is actually a bank teller. Her husband works as DJ and a ski patroller in his off season.

So how much does a wedding dj normally cost? We are trying to plan our budget, but it is so hard because i don't know how much anything costs!!! (not to mention virtually NO deejays post their rates online) The wedding will be in Northern Delaware (about a 30 minute drive from philly)
