I think it ranges from $1 - $3, though I have heard of some people charging $5. HTH!
My calligrapher charges $2.50 for an outer envelope, $1.25 for an inner envelope, and 75 cents for an escort card/place card.
Hi, blushingaudrey! I just sent you a private message about my (el-cheapo, but el-nice-o) calligraphy services, along with a link where you can see images of my work. As a bride-to-be myself, I hope I can help!
I got a good price from Maren Nicholas www.dreamweavercalligraphy.com -- just mailed her my invites. I don't remember exactly what it was, but the website will say. I think it was less than $2 per inner/outer set. s very nice & responsive....and the calligraphy is really pretty (prettier than it looks on the website, in my opinion).
Around here we could get them as cheap as $1.25-1.50...but I decided to do it myself. I just bought a calligraphy kit, downloaded a font I liked, printed all the characters I would need (uppercase, lowercase, numbers) on a piece of paper and practiced a little (not much). I printed a piece of paper with lines on it and inserted it into the envelope so that I could keep my lines straight.
Can you believe it, I've had more than a few people ask me who did my calligraphy and they were really impressed that I did it myself.
Thanks all, this is really helpful. Keeping it under $2/set would be great, so I'm encouraged.
cdenton, as I said I had all but decided to do them myself too--bought the ink and pen and everything. But it's become more a matter of time than anything else--I've come home ~1am several nights in a row crying from exhaustion due to a combo of my mentally draining day job, helping run my parents' business at night while they are out of the country, and finishing the DIY and very labor-intensive invites themselves, plus dance lessons, rowing practice, pre-cana meetings, trying not to totally ignore ALL our friends right before the wedding.....
Yikes, it's scary even just writing it all out. You can see how tired I am by the awful typos in my first post. :-P
Well, I figure my parents are at least paying me, and since it's their work that is mostly keeping me from this project, I can use that unexpected income to justify the calligraphy expense. :-D
Sory blushing...I didn't read your post carefully. Try craigslist. I saw someone around here who did it for $1.25.

Hi bees... I had planned on doing my calligraphy myself (I've done it before and am prtety good), but I'm just feeling overwhelmed and out of time. How much does is cost to have a calligrapher do it for you? I can't find any estimates anywhere. Thanks!
