These past few days have been very stressful for me – there was a situation at work on Friday that got me really worked up and that I haven’t really gotten over yet, and last night I had to take my 1.5-year-old puppy to the animal hospital (she seems to be doing well now, thank goodness).
I am currently7DPO, and I’m just wondering, how much would acute stressors like these be able to affect my chances to conceive this cycle, particularly since they’re happening around when implantation could potentially occur? To be honest, a certain amount of work stress is fairly common for me right now, though Friday’s incident led to an off-the-charts kind of stress. Anyone have any anecdotes about stress and TTC, or links to any good (hopefully scientific) articles?
Thanks in advance!

Some people will say that stress can affect TTC, but I don’t think so.
I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder and I worry about almost everything. I’ve gotten better over the last couple of years but I stress easily. It took 7 cycles to get PG but compared to a lot of other people that’s not that long. I don’t think my stress had anything to do with our TTC journey.

Stress can delay ovulation but I’ve never heard of it preventing implantation. I think you’re at the same point you’d be in if you weren’t stressed.

I’ve only had stress impact my cycle once in my life, and that was when my bf’s mom died while we were in high school. My period came 12 days late that month, my doctor actually gave me medication to get it to start again. That is an extreme case, I don’t think everyday stress interferes much with my ovulation schedule I was always pretty regular despite being a worrier 😛 I also agree with Glasgowbound, stress or illness can affect when you ovulate (sometimes your body senses the stress/illness and decides to wait longer to release an egg that month) but it shouldn’t affect whether or not an already fertilized egg can implant. So in your particular case i don’t think stress is a factor at all.

@IAmTheShadow: If it helps, I conceived the same month we got our puppy. I was locking myself in the bathroom, crying hysterically for fear of being bitten by my puppy. He was also a seziure dog, so I was so stressed out watching him suffer through seizures. We spent so much time taking care of him and that, combined with my job, was a real stressful situation.
However, I still got pregnant. I think stress delays periods and doesn’t help in the sex aspect (you might have too many thoughts running through your mind to focus or finish if you were a guy), but as far as it preventing you from getting pregnant, no.

@megz06: thanks, that makes me feel a bit better! And congrats!
Thank you all for your replies. I am still awaiting an answer this month (BFNs so far, but still a day or two out from when AF would show), but I feel better having read and thought about your replies. Thanks again!
