If you take a prescription pre-natal vitamin, how much does it cost?

My doc would like me to switch to a prescription, but they seem to be pretty expensive!

Mine are about $50/month, but I only pay $5 with my prescription plan.  Some prescriptions have coupons, though, so yuou might check the manufacturer's website.

With my prescription plan I only pay $10 for the generic version but for the name brand version I pay $50.

Thanks everyone! My doc wants me to take the brand name vitamin, not the generic, so it is pretty expensive!

I still take mine and they are free. :) Really though what's the difference between your brand name and generic? Why does he want you to switch?

@HopingToBeaMama:  Same thing here. She wants me to take a specific name brand and it costs $48 per month. It's ridiculous, but obviously it must be worth it.

My OB was incredibly generous. Since her office was constantly getting samples, she supplied her patients with the sample boxes of vitamins. I seriously never once had to fill the prescription during my entire pregnancy!

What's the difference between normal prenatals and prescription prenatals?

I asked my doc for a prescription cause I thought they would be covered by my health care plan. turns out they aren't - so it's $35 for a 30 day supply.

I got a 3 month supply of generic brand at costco for $9 :)

@PinkMagnolia:  The prescription ones usually have 1,000 mcg of folic acid, while the OTC ones cannot have more than 800 mcg folic acid.

Mine are $12 for a 3 month supply.

@MissGreen:  @PinkMagnolia:  And in my case, I've been having constipation problems, so the kind that my doctor wants me to switch to is supposed to help relieve this. I didn't think it was a big deal, but I guess the constipation can lead to other problems (hemrroids and other not-so-fun-stuff!) so I am going to try it out for a month.

But they are $60 for a 30 day supply... and that is AFTER my insurance pays over $50!!!!
