i have always been a workout nut, but i recently started working out twice a day. i go to the gym before i go to work for about 1-1.5 hours. then after work my fiancee and i go running for about 45 minutes to an hour.
when i am at the gym i do cardio and focus on weightlifting.
i think it is really good for your body to get different types of cardiovascular activity. that being said, working out for one three hour stretch a day will probably do more harm than good. your muscles will get tired and sore, and you could risk hurting yourself. you could also plateau, which means your body gets used to the same type of exercises. i say switch it up, and working out more than 2 hours a day is fine as long as they are seperated and are two different kinds of workouts.
@heatherrobyn: Yep, that seems sensible. No point going for broke in one long bltz and then not being able to move for a week haha!
I love working out, but I need a day of rest in between, because I have a tendency to over-do it and hurt myself (unintentionally). I do an hour workout every other day.
@cbee: That's precisely why I had an assessment at the gym and made sure they gave me a detailed workout to do, haha! I'm pure clumsy and would surely do myself damage if I had nobody watching me! Do you find you get good results from the day on, day off plan?
I think breaking it up is good as long as you get a little bit of cardio at each session.
@caszos: That's pretty much what i was thinking.. I'll be trying to keep some kind of balance in it. Daft, really... If I'd been good from last May this wouldn't be a problem at all! Oh well, may just keep at it!
Be careful about injuries girl! You dont want to jumpstart into intense training and end up throwing out your back before your wedding! Break it up, and include stretching! Good luck!
@littlecat: Thanks! Yeah I'll be mindful of that, my back has its humours so I will be careful! Enough stress around a wedding without the bride hobbling around like an invalid haha!
I would do just the gym workout, but focus much, much more on your diet. Most of weight loss is diet, and it will make a very big difference if you start eating healthier.
@ILikePink: :( I know... I just find it so hard! I've no excuse at all, no thyroid issues or anything, I'm just a greedy little piggy! If someone locked the kitchen door at 8 pm I'd be grand. Hmm.. might just talk to FI about that haha!
I said the 3 hour blitz each morning, because I feel you need a day or two off if you're blitzing it for three hours each day. I love to workout and stay active, but a 3 hour every single morning is a bit much, for me personally......unless an hour or that is yoga or something. :)

I have 16 weeks to the wedding, and want to make the best possible use of my time, from a health perspective at least. I am working on my diet: it's improving, but my willpower is nowhere near what it should be. I'm heavy and unfit, but my doc is perfectly happy for me to work like a madwoman, haha. I am not working right now, so I do have plenty of free time during the day to exercise.
My question is, what would be an appropriate amount of daily exercise to get optimum results?
Is more than two hours per day nuts?
Or is it more a matter of breaking it up - say, would it be sensible to do a 90 min workout (cardio & weights) in the morning, and something on Kinect/ 60 min walk/ 30 min swim in the evening?
I'll be doing my workout under instructor advice, so I know about working diff muscle groups diff days, watching heart rate, using machines properly etc.
Lots of advice please!!
