My FSIL paid almost $2,000, a few people I know about $5k, but it depends on who it is, their experience, what they include, hours shooting, travel expenses, time editing, and other stuff. You could try posting a craigslist add with your budget to see if you get volunteers.
It really depends. We were very clear about what we wanted: no album, ALL our digital negatives on DVD, no forced posey-posey shots. It felt like searching for a needle in a haystack, but we managed to find a great guy at a great price. He's just under $1K for 6 hours of time plus all photo negatives on DVD (He'll take about 1500 pics). If we want to snazz it up, he has a package for $1300 that includes the basic package I just mentioned, plus an online gallery of 300 photos that he's edited.
hi girls, i'm compiling a list of phographers around $3k, check it out if you are looking for photographers.

I don't necessarily agree that you pay for experience! While that is somewhat true, you also pay for the popularity of the photographer. I recently did an e-session with a photographer who usually shoots AWESOME maternity/family photos and her engagement session prices were so much cheaper than traditional "wedding" photographers because that is not what she typically does. I think you should be able to find a quality photographer for around 2k, but you'll be doing a lot of searching!
Also, if you can, try to find a photographer that will give you all of your photos on a CD. Then you don't have to pay for the prints, which is where majority of the cost is! As mentioned, my e-session photographer provided me with 300+ beautiful photos on a CD and I can print them from anywhere I want! (and post them on facebook with a simple mention of her website :)
@GI Josephine: Well, technically, in the example you gave, the photographer does NOT have a lot of experience. You are paying less because they do not normally do wedding photography.
If you don't want albums, you should be able to find someone decent - maybe not spectacular - for around $2,000. Make sure you get someone that does good post-processing - it makes all the difference in the pictures looking professional vs amateur.
I would highly recommend www.natevealstudios.com he did my engagement photos http://vimeo.com/9364749 and we also hired him for day of coverage as an additional photographer and day after for my trash the dress session. Check them out !
I'm a child and family photographer (I worked in NYC until I recently moved to the Philippines) and I'm getting married in Miami, from my research I know you can get a GREAT photog for $2000 (2 shooters for $3000)...some are crazy pricey (Maloman, Gregory Paul) and are very good, but there ARE good ones out there for much less then that ---
Have you ever thought about booking someone from out of state? Generally there's a reduced fee (if any) and you're responsible for the airfare, hotel, rental car and meals for 3 days.
I LOVED our photographer and we got 7 hours of coverage, a 2nd shooter and a 2hr day after shoot for far less than locals.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I was wondering what is a standard price for a wedding photographer. A friend of mine just got married in December and spend more than 7k. It seemed a lot at first, but I been getting some quotes and realizing is very expensive, at least when you include sessions and an album. Any imput will be appreciated!
