For a point of comparison, I was quoted $700 for a classic string trio to play during the ceremony and cocktail hour.  I am going to go with a bluegrass trio for $500 to play for the ceremony and cocktail hour.

If I were to only have a violinist for 3 songs and that person had no experience, I wouldn’t pay more than a $150.  Maybe that is low, but it’s only 1 person for probably an hour tops.  And $150/hr sounds pretty good to me.

I was thinking $100, but I felt like just for the effort to drive to your wedding and set up and play, that $150 was more fair.

Maybe you should see if she could play a little before the ceremony while people are arriving to add to the ambiance.  I bet you could get that included for $150 and not seem unreasonable and feel like you were getting your money’s worth.

hi! i used to play violin at weddings quite a bit… i think since it’s just three songs and they have not played at a wedding before, $100 is certainly appropriate (and i would say the same even if they played a little at the reception). is this a professional violinist or student?

maybe you could offer $100 and a meal at the reception??

I booked her for 45min so she would be playing as guests arrived. Our ceremony will be short so it is plenty of time for us.
