My husband and I each get an ‘allowance’ per paycheck of $50…so $100 a month. This is for our own personal fun money, for example: fast food/coffee at work, clothes, dinner/drinks with friends (without him), we have another ‘Entertainment’ budget for us together, and include our hygeine and household items in the grocery budget. Personally, this is enough for me, as I am very frugal, but my husband spends his quickly and even asks for advances! haha
I just feel like everyone around me spends money like crazy, and I don’t understand how they do it! (Going out all the time, dinner, new clothes/shoes) I know it varies of course with your income, but these are people who are pretty even with us financial wise.
So, I am just wondering, How much ‘Fun Money’ do you give yourself each month to spend as you please?

It’s usually about $300/month, depending on the month!

It’s $50/month for each of us and it’s the same every month.

We need to reevaluate it, as we are moving this month and expenses have just been high all around. We are spending too much on prepared food because we don’t want to cool after packing!!

We don’t really have a budget and we really should. So long as all the bills are paid and we can direct 30 percent into savings, I don’t care what happens with the rest of it. I’d say maybe 5 percent of our combined income goes to “fun” stuff each month.

@siempresoulmates: We give ourselves a $75/week entertainment budget. This is separtate from our essentials. We don’t really stick to the categories for our money very well. We have $300 a week that covers everything, gas, food, fun, necessities etc. Usually it all works out.

We are just starting out and saving for the wedding, so we’re doing $200/month each right now. So $100/paycheck. It’s going to be the same every month. I think this is more than enough except I like to buy a couple seasonal items every few months, but if I just keep $10 or $20 aside each time I’ll have enough and it won’t be a problem at all.

@MrsPanda99: same for us.
We don’t really have a budget. We direct a certain amount into savings and just do what we want with the rest. As long as we don’t have to dig into savings to pay off bills or credit cards we don’t pay much attention.
Perhaps we should set some kind of budget up but we are already saving and investing quite a bit of money so I don’t see the point right now. I don’t really have an estimate of how much we spend on “fun” stuff.

We don’t actually budget anything, we just buy/do what we want every month and never have to worry. That’s the beauty of being DINKS with great jobs!

@Pinkmoon: +1. I love DINKdom! Lol.
@MrsBeck: Exactly. I always say we should make a budget but then again I really don’t see a point…so it always gets pushed off.

@siempresoulmates: We have $20/each and it’s for non-shared expenses. Mostly lunches with coworkers. We have a category in the budget for everything else clothing, haircuts, entertainment, restaurants, gas, groceries, etc. It is set at the begining of the month. We use the software from youneedabudget.com and it helps us stay in check.

Our fun money varies from month to month depending on short term goals. We haven’t fully combined our finances (and never will!), so our fun money is something that comes from our personal budgets. We only budget together for household expenses. Our household expenses include; rent, groceries, hygene items, utilities, and renter’s insurance. Everything else like; our car payments, car insurance, gas money, cell phones, credit cards, student loans, and fun money, comes from our personal budgets. So I said all of that to say that I have no clue how much “fun money” my partner gives himself. I just know that it decreases, when we have fluctuations in our household expenses or when we are saving for something special together. We make similar incomes, and I have a good idea of his spending, so I know that we probably spend about the same on “fun” every paycheck.
Usually, I give myself about $300.00/mo. of fun money. But with Christmasa coming up and recent car issues for the both of us, fun spending has decreased to about half that at best.

It’s usually about $5 a month haha. We actually don’t have any money left over to spend on anything, so I rely on birthdays and holidays for new clothing or to go out. We only eat out on a special occasion.

We budget $120 for fun money each week, that’s $60 each and is supposed to be for the weekends, Friday night thru Sunday night. Each month can have either 4 or 5 weekends, so at most we spend $620…. wow, now that I’m actually typing that out it feels like way too much!! Especially with saving for the wedding. But oh well, we prefer to have fun and enjoy the weekends so that’s what it will be. We actually tried cutting that back but we ended up over spending anyway. Oh well.

He just spends whatever he wants ($1200 tablet here, $600 Xbox One there) but I live less than paycheck to paycheck so there is no such thing as “fun” money for me.
