I'm waiting until we get closer to the wedding, or else I'm going to buy trunk loads of stuff. I think I'm going to keep it simple and traditional and stick to jewelry and a nice wrap. I'd rather get them one or two nice things instead of a bunch of cheap things. I have a trip planned for China in May, so I plan to do most of my shopping there... talk about a deal! I think I'm going to spend between $35 and $50 per girl. Thank goodness I only have 4!
I spent about $40 on my maids. I got them one substantial gift (a handmade, stained glass window hanging of the Cladaugh symbol) and an embroidered hankie. I also treated them to lunch the day before.
I'm getting them some coin pearl jewelry and a handbag..their "proposal" to be a bridesmaid is a gorgeous damask hatbox with a tshirt inside I designed and a hand designed card (thank goodness for Zazzle).
I don't remember the exact number, but I know it was more than $50. I got them a crimson colored pashmina, a faux fur stole, and two sets of jewelry so they could pick the one the preferred to wear that day. If I could have gone back, and had more time to buy it when I found it, I would have probably gotten them a cute bag and a really cute toiletry bag that I found on Overstock.com
Here is another post on this topic: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/bridesmaid-gift-amount
I spent way too much because I bought gifts over time as I saw things I thought they would like, so over $150 I'm sure!
I bought my maids a pearl necklace and matching earrings and a bottle of POP champagne.
I put $25-$50, but that's actually probably low. I'm paying for their hair/nails/make-up too, and considering it their gift, and the jewelry for the wedding, but I just know I'm going to be like you and find stuff I want to get them. I wanted to do some stuff from B&BB but one girl is allergic to all of it, so I don't want hers to be the only different one. And I'm hesitant to do something unique for each of them, because one is my FH's sister and unfortunately I just don't know her that well. We're WAY different personality types, so I don't have a clue.
I spent around $40 for my bridesmaids. I got them pink reefs to were during the reception, a pearl necklace with ribbon tie, and matching earrings. I also paid for their hair, dresses, and shoes for the wedding.
I'm spending about $250 on my MOH. I'm getting her a handmade gold necklace with an emerald pendant made here in Colombia. I've also gotten a bunch of stuff through the clearance sales on Victorias Secret and Bath & Body Works for like a little gift bag the day before the wedding (AKA "Spa Day" AKA "Bachelorette Day"). But I only have one person to shop for (no BMs) so it's easier to spend more...
I haven't started buying yet, but I plan on doing fairly large gifts (or more accurately, lots of mid-range gifts) to thank my girls. I'm keeping this separate from our "Wedding Budget" spending, because it's very very important to me to be able to get my girls and mom nice, thoughtful gifts wiithout having to worry about how much I'm spending.
I'm currently planning on getting them jewelry (something they can wear both for the wedding and again after), a monogrammed bag, earmuffs and nice gloves (for our winter wedding weekend), and some other, more personal things as well.
Mine will come in at around $125. I made them purses, bought purse hooks and picked up some bath stuff in a cute tote at CVS last spring for a great price. I'm also going to pay for their hair and make-up which will be about $100 each. This is way more than I expected to pay for gifts, but I feel that since I am in a position right now where I can afford it, I'm ok with it. I really appreciate all they are doing for me (one is even flying in from Germany to be a BM) so I think it's worth it.
I think how much you spend on bridesmaid gifts also depends on how many you have! I had 4 girls to buy gifts for, and spent about $100 on each, and $400 total. I think if I had double the amount of girls, I probably would have spent half the money, bringing my total amount spent on gifts to the same amount.
I'm having a hard time deciding right now how much to spend on them, so this is a good post for me. I really want the girls to spend less than $200 on their dresses ... but I think I've fallen in love with one that is a bit over that budget ... so my plan as of now is to give them $50 towards their dress at the time of purchase and then an addtional gift of about $50. I want to do something that is siginificant and a keepsake, but also doesn't break the budget. I also plan to get them a little more personalized "out of town bag" for when they get to the hotel as well ... but it will most likely be very similar to the other out of town bags just with a few extras.
These are all great ideas -- keep sharing ladies!
That's a great idea, Humarock! I might piggyback your idea for the gift certificate for the dress!
My sister in law gave everyone gorgeous, simple monogrammed keychains for her 2002 wedding, and we all still use them. It's my favorite favor/wedding gift I've ever gotten, because every time I look at it I think of what a fun day it was, and how much I love my SIL and my brother. :)
I'm sure they weren't terribly expensive. I could find out more if you're interested. :)
I plan on buying them their jewelry for the wedding day, treating them to manis the day before and hosting a bridal luncheon too. I am toying with the idea of a tote bag or clutch for the wedding but we'll see. Setting aside the lunch and mani, I am hoping to spend about 100 a person.
I will be at about $100. I already found cute totes via Victoria's Secret and am buying all of their shoes at nearly $70/pair. I am also hoping to find cute necklaces on Etsy, an inexpensive clutch, and a pair of Old Navy flip flops for them to change into later in the evening. My girls are fantastic and their dresses were kind of expensive, but we all loved them, so I ended up adding the shoes to their gift to help them out.
I'm spending about $150 on each of my girls. That includes a spa treatment for each.. I think it'll end up being $50 in actual 'gifts' that they can take home.
Hummarock, the dress gift certificate is genius!

My wedding is almost two years away, but I keep finding cute gifts to give the bridesmaids. With the economy being so bad, I have found some great deals, but I'm worried I am going over the top.
So far, I have earrings, a beach bag and robes. I plan on adding flip flops too and maybe some small beachy items for the beach bag. I went to Old Navy yesterday and saw the cutest nautical pajama pants, but had to stop myself! I feel like I need to calm down otherwise all the items may add up and blow money that I should be saving for other areas. They may also just become completely random and seem weird.
It made me wonder, how much are you spending on your bridesmaids?
And what are you getting them?
Anyone getting any great deals?
