@TogetherThroughLife:  since we just got married (this year) we filed separately obviously. I’m getting $2681, I was expecting more so that’s a little disappointing. We haven’t filed DH’s yet but I plan on doing that tonight.

@TogetherThroughLife:  There are so many variables, it’s really not an easy answer to give.  It depends on marital status you file versus what is listed on your W4, withholdings on your W4, marital income, state taxes (my state doesn’t do them), etc….  There really is no average because everyone’s information is different.

@TogetherThroughLife:  A refund (for the most part) is your money to begin with.  I think to really achieve what you are looking for with averages it may be better to ask how much your tax liability was.

For example, I personally paid in 15,000 and my tax liability was 12,000 so I got a refund of 3,000.

@TogetherThroughLife:  We’re getting a little over $4000 from the feds.  We got a marriage bonus because our joint income and standard deductions knocked us down into a lower tax bracket.  We live in Florida so no state income taxes here.

i was surprised we didnt get much by filing married joint. i guess because we are in another tax bracket since combined we make more. im really disappointed. i thought we would get double. we are getting back LESS than what i wouldve got on my own. i dont know if im doing anything wrong or thats just the luck of the draw. :/

We haven’t done ours yet but I’ll just be happy if we don’t pay in, lol. I think we got like $3k combined back last year.

@CarpefnDiem:  we get about $1000 less combined than we used to before we were married since our combined income bumps us into another tax bracket.

$13 Federal and $57 for the state.

I only worked like a couple days in August and then worked mid-September-January 4. Before that was per diem under the table or unemployed.

FH didn’t work anywhere except jail in 2013 and just got back into the sheet metal union last month after a few years of hiatus doing other work.

I knock my DH to a lower bracket but we won’t get anything back this year (usually 4-6k combined) because we changed our deductions. That way we keep the money and put it into savings throughout the year.

We got 3k combined last year.

Our income remained unchanged this year. We did purchase a home, and as always put our student loan interest paid as well.

We will get back 4K….all going to the wedding 🙁
