Do you get your hair professionally done? Nails? Facials? Waxed? Make-up? Massages? How much do you pay for your monthly upkeep?

    Me,

Hair, about 120-150 a month, and then around 300 every third month when I get "the works"

    Nails, 80 dollars a month

    toes, 70 dollars a month

    lashes 30 dollars a month

    What about you?

    Erm... haha!

    Hair: I cut it myself

Makeup: chapstick, mascera and a light mineral foundation

That's literally it, other than body wash and lotion. I tan going to the beach, I tweeze my brows myself and I can't grow my nails out enough for a manicure.

I get my hair cut about every 6 weeks, that costs $60. Though I do have a gym membership ($500/year) and I buy any fruits and veggies I am craving even if they are not in season (if I want to spend $4/lb on tomatoes in January, so be it).

    @KatyElle:

I have oftentimes wished I could do my own hair! It's quite an expense to keep it looking good. If I knew how, it would be a no brainer...a done deal! Luckily, my aunt does my eyebrows, and I don't get any other hair on my body taken care of professionally. So that saves!

I don't dye, or treat my hair in any way.  I used to get it trimmed but I stopped a year ago.  I trim it myself now.

I sometimes buy shampoo and conditioner that is a little more expensive but nothing crazy.

I do my own nails and do a pretty good job at it.

    I pluck my own eyebrows.

I guess I really only buy makeup -- about $50 for 3 months worth of makeup.

I don't pay for a gym membership, I just take the dog for a walk or jog outside.

A $10 box of Feria? That's my only real monthly expense.

I haven't gotten my haircut in like a year. I trim it myself, but usually I go every 6 months to get it cut and buy my hair products at the salon, so that's $120 a pop, $240 a year. I buy makeup like once a year and that costs ~$200, maybe a bit more. I stopped getting my nails done and just use my own polish which is rolled into my makeup purchase costs. I do my own eyebrows and use FI for massages.

If you don't count standard shampoo/bodywash/razors/etc then it looks like I spend about $47 a month if you average the total over a year.

Well, it used to be a lot more before the economy hit bottom. lol  I used to get waxed, get mani-pedis once a week, laser twice a year for sun spots, etc. shots of cortisone for my zits, etc. I spent a small fortune every year on maintenance (would that I had that money now!)

But necessity is the mother of invention and I've become a pro at maintenance. I do my own nails once a week without fail and I take care of my own brows (pluck, trim and shape), I found this great Salley Hansen product called PODS that removes upper lip hair, so no more monthly waxing. My doctor has me on a really inexpensive antibiotic for the acne, which works great.

Sadly, the laser is out of the question, as are the Restalyne shots that I finally really need. Boo.  But the one thing I will never give up is getting my hair done: highlights. lowlights and cut every six weeks and it's worth every penny.  I live in a small city so I spend about $200-$250 every time I go.

$60 haircut every couple of months. I trim the back of my hair myself in between cuts to keep from developing a mullet.

I do my own nails, and give myself mini spa treatments when I'm feeling run down. I spend maybe $10-$15 monthly on cosmetics if you average it out.

    lashes 30 dollars a month

I don't even know what it MEANS to have your lashes done!!

I get my hair cut about once every 3 months - $70, including tip

    ...that's it.

Well, that's not true, in the summer I'll get a bikini wax once a month for $40.

I do my brows myself, trim my nails but don't regularly polish them, wear very light mineral makeup.

Haircut, maaaaybe every 6-8 months.  $30-50.Done... just about as low maintenance as it gets.  I don't wear make up daily and take care of nails and brows and what not myself.

I live near a big hairdressing school, so I get my hair cut there for $10 every other month. I may spend $10 every month on face wash and hair stuff, but usually less than that. Oh, and i get my eyebrows done like every 3 months for $12.

    Holy moly, I feel cheap.

I get my hair cut about every 5 months at about $50 each time. Other than that no expenses. Don't do my nails, tweeze my eye lashes, don't really wear makeup and DH gives me weekly massages. Smile

My big expense is hair: $250 every 9 weeks.

Other than that, I do my own nails, don't go to the spa, use drugstore makeup and skincare/haircare products so not too bad.

I cut my own hair and have never had it colored because I change my mind too much and would probably end up hating it. Plus, people have told me that they love my natural hair color and not to mess with it.

I also do my own nails. I love manicures, but I don't like to spend the money on them.

I'm not sure how much money I spend on makeup, but I don't buy anything high-end, so it's not a huge amount of money. I wear eyeliner, mascara, blush, concealer and some kind of natural looking lip color. I don't need or like foundations and primers and the like. I like it as simple as possible.

If I feel like pampering myself skin-wise, I'll make a face mask from scratch, and it always does the trick. Otherwise, I use some Neutrogena face wash and a collagen moisturizer on a daily basis.

I don't wax anything: I tried it on my legs once and it hurt really bad and didn't even remove all the hair. I shave my legs and other things that need to be shaved and pluck and shape my own eyebrows.

The only thing I would actually consider spending a good deal of money on if I had extra would be massages, because christ, do I ever need them.

    Oh boy! Errr..

I don't even wash my face!

My FMIL owns 2 salons and spas , so If I want a cut or something done, its free but sadly I'm never taking advantage of it.

My last investment was probably new runnign shoes ( ~ $60 bucks)

My other biggest money waster would be food and caffeine. Two things I'm picky about that help me maintain myself lol

I get lashes extensions. I love them! I actually only wear lip gloss because my lashes make me look like I have on makeup. It makes my eyes pop and my skin look flawless.

Oh I'm terrible when it comes to this stuff.  I spend about $50 every six months for a haircut.  I pay $62 a month for my gym membership.  I used to pay $60 per month for mssages but that's on hold at the moment while I pay down some debt.  For the past few months I've been getting chemical peels at $150 a pop, I will probably start those again in the next few months.  But besides that I'm super low maintenance...my nails look like total shit!

Oh wow, I'm feeling rather inadequate.   I'm a pretty low-key girl and don't spend much at all on monthly maintenance!

I get a hair cut every three months or so for about $40.

    I tweeze my own eyebrows

    No waxing...good ole razor

Make-up, I wear powder every day, Clinique, $20, no idea how long it lasts (only started wearing it about 8 weeks ago and it's still going strong)

Nails - nope, cut them as soon as they start getting too long, other than that, a coat of clear polish works for me

Massages - love them but only want one once every few months

Other than that, I've been to a spa three times and whilst I loved the facials and body treatments, it's a once in a great while thing for me, not a regular occurrence.

DH cuts my hair about every two weeks, obviously for free.  I don't get anything waxed, dyed, or plucked.  I used to get a pedicure every spring then finish off the warm weather season myself, but this year I got lazy and I've been getting a pedi about every 4 weeks since spring.  I never get a manicure.  I'd probably ruin it before I got home!  I hate WAITING to get my hair done, nails done etc.  I have a big problem spending all that time at a salon or spa.  I only get the pedis so much now because I'm on summer break and I go when the nail shop first opens so I don't have to wait.

And... I also do not know what it means to get your lashes done.  Someone please enlighten me. : )

I do literally everything myself...I only go to the salon once every 4-6 months to get my hair trimmed back into shape (because I have a pixie which is fine enough to cut myself most of the time, but each time I do it it gets a little bit more out of shape, so I go get a "touch up" at the salon occasionally).

I do gel nails myself, I paint my nails myself, I tweeze my eyebrows myself, I wax/shave/otherwise maintain body hair myself. I don't dye my hair at all. I guess I'm pretty low maintenance haha.

I get my hair cut maybe once every 3 months, if I'm being really good about it. Usually it's like once every 4 or 5. Costs about $40.

I color my hair about the same once every 3 -5 months. $6

I do my own nails if and when I want them done. Probably comes down to less than a dollar a month.

Makeup. My foundation is the most expensive thing in my makeup bag and it costs $25. I get a new one maybe every 8 months or so. I don't really know. The other stuff in my makeup bag I probably replace about once a year and it all adds up to like $30 I'd guess.

So all in all it's probably about $20 a month.

I'd love to try getting a massage. I think I'd love it. But I've never had the chance. Maybe once we're employed :)

For my hair - I get a haircut every 2-3 months from an esthetics college for $12! I've stopped dyeing my hair over a year ago, but I used to do it from a box.

Massage - $95/month but my benefits cover it

Eyebrows - I do my own

Nails - I do my own, but I got a pedicure once before my wedding

Makeup - I love Sephora, Bath and Body Works, etc and I spend about $50-75/month there

Gym - $16/month as I use the gym where I work

I get a pedicure and my eyebrows waxed every other week and I found a great cheap place so it cost me about $54 for both times. My gym membership is $10. That's it. I get my hair cut maybe 2 times per year at this point in my life.

My splurge is massage. I spend $120 per month on this. I'm trying to delay a breast reduction in hopes that I can get some weight off and strengthen my back at the gym.

I get my nails done about once every 2 weeks - its not so much a vanity thing as a great way to unwind!  My local place does mani-pedi for $35, so I guess thats about $70/month

I broke my highlighting habit about 2 years ago, so now I spend about $60 to get my hair cut about every 3 months.

I wax and groom myself - so maybe $15 for the wax and strips, which last forever

    I don't wear makeup

I'm going to start getting a facial every month in the lead up to the wedding, $95 a pop (FMIL is paying, it was her engagement party gift to me!)

ETA: if we're including fitness, then $750/20 sessions of pilates, which last me about 10-14 weeks depending on my frequency...thats definitely my biggest expense!

    @Dsquared:

No, of course not! I didn't mean to make it sound like that. My question was: how much do you spend to look good? It can be "nothing" or 500 dollars. If you notice, I said I wished I could do my own hair, nails, etc...

People can look good spending nothing on maintenance, I've seen it!

If it sounded like I meant something else, I did not.

This last spring was the first time in 2+ years I got a professional cut. It was about 40$.

I get my eyebrows waxed roughly 2-3 months, so thats 15$.

Since November I've bought 4 nail polishes, so that's 40$.

Um. Lets just say I spend next to nothing - at least monthly.

I cut & color my own hair & actually have people ask me to do theirs.

I polish my nails on my own unless I get fake nails (which is rare.) But I love them when I do!

I don't tan nor want to, my mom owns a tanning bed. I just like my skin the way it is.

I do my own make up/eyebrows/anything else.

So how ever much it is when I buy new makeup or hair color, which isn't much. :P

I feel frumpy after reading how much some of you take care of yourselves (which is great, don't get me wrong! I wish I had the motivation to do everything on some of your lists!)

I use to get my hair highlighted every six weeks, go tanning 4 times a week, get my nails/toes done every two weeks, go shopping every weekend and get my eyebrows waxed once a month.

Then I got skin cancer so the tanning was out, I got pregnant...so my figure is not the same as it use to be, and I do my own eye brows, paint my own nails, never really go shopping unless its to hit up a sale, etc. Sad! I do have a gym membership, sometimes I lay out (covering the area that I skin cancer and I wear SPF) umm but really nothing else anymore.

Hair (cut and full foil): $130, every four months or so

Nails: $0. I usually bite them. (I know, I know! Gross!) I have had one mani-pedi in my life and it tickled too much so I've never been back. I'll do my own French pedicure every month or so, and if I need my fingernails to look better than usual I'll do two coats of nude polish. Easy peasy.

Eyebrows: $0. I do them myself with my Tweezermans and an extremely bright LED flashlight so I can see the tiny hairs I'd be likely to miss.

Facials: $0. I'll do a homemade sugar scrub or honey mask once in a while, but that's it.

Waxing: $6. I buy prewaxed strips at Target. The box lasts a few months and I'm able do my bikini area in the privacy of my bathroom, preferably after taking a couple of Advil. Or drinking a mug of hot chocolate spiked with butterscotch schnapps.

    Gym membership: $15 a month.

Makeup: $20 a month, give or take. While I could easily spend a couple hundred at MAC or Sephora, I get a bigger thrill by finding products just as good for a quarter the price in CVS!

Well I feel like a manly gorilla after readin all this lol. I'm lucky if I get my hair cut and highlighted every 8 weeks. I do have a gym membership which is $50 a month. I do my own nails because no one ever notices the difference. I do my own eyebrows. I know this will sound weird but I find all of the maintenance to be exhausting sometimes.

I am a makeup snob (rather, my skin is.) so that varies....other than the occasional $25 pedicure and $7 eyebrow wax, I spend about $120 on my hair every 2-3 months. If my husband is coming home I spend $60 on a brazillian.

Oh and I pay ~$40/mo for yoga classes and I consider that maitenance for my body and soul! lol
