I feel like someone might have started a similar thread awhile back, but I can’t find it, so I will ask again. How much smaller can alterations make your dress without ruining it? When I ordered mine they ordered it the same size as the sample because they needed it to fit the “biggest part” of me, which was my hips….I was fine with that, but now I’m getting worried. The sample was pretty big on other areas (bust, waist), and I am losing weight, so it will be even BIGGER. I’m just worried that if it has to go too small it will wreck the dress.
Does anyone have experience with this?

The new dress they ordered for you will be tighter than the sample because the sample has been tried on multiple times. Most of the time the bridal consultants really know what they are doing and will usually order the right size. My dress was also big in the bust but itwas fine in the end.

@bells: That is a great point, I hadn’t thought of the fact that the sample would be bigger 🙂 Thanks!

I am in a similar situation. Loved the sample, but a little snug in the ribcage area. They told me to order up a size and they would just take it in to make the rest look like sample. Needless to say when I tried on actual dress last night, I was not happy with how it looked. I have a post up about something similar. Just in case it does come in and its a little big, hopefully they can alter to make perfect.
Dress is in and I hate it…can alterations help?!

Alterations make a world of difference with everything, not just your wedding dress. When something is tailored to fit your body it changes everything. Just be sure you have a good tailor they can do ANYTHING.

I bought my dress big and also lost weight before my wedding. The alterations lady took my dress in 4 1/2 sizes and it looked perfect. The important part is to find someone good and book EARLY. The person I used booked up 6 months in advance. I used wedding wire to find someone good in my area.
