It sounds very reasonable to me. You can barely find restaurants to eat in for $20 pp here.
I think the best way to determine whether the food is worth it is to do a tasting. No price is reasonable for a bad dinner!
Yeah, that sounds pretty reasonable. Are you having the wedding near Buffalo or closer to the Cities? My wedding is in St Paul and the caterer at my venue quoted me a little higher than that.
I guess it all depends where you are from. I think $20 per person is a bit expensive. Have you tried restaurants such as Famous Daves? I heard they caterer for around $7 a person. But then you might have to supply your own plates and such, i do not know how your venue works. Just an idea for you to check out.
Wow $20 is a great price. Like another poster mentioned, you pay more for dinner at most midlevel restaurants. Around here $20 per head is just unheard of. But I also think it depends on your overall budget. Just remember that food/alcohol is usually the biggest chunk of your wedding budget.
Does your caterer also supply all the rentals for dinnerware, utensils, etc...? And are server's fees and gratuities included as well? You're bringing your own alcohol, but does the 2 grand include an alcohol license (if needed in your area) and/or a bartender and bar set-up (glasses, ice, etc...)? Personally, I think $20/person is a good price, but you might just want to check and make sure everything is included so you aren't stuck with surprise fees at the end.
The other thing to consider is your total overall wedding budget. I think if you have a 5 grand budget and catering costs 2 grand, that's pretty high. If you're working with a small budget, you might want to consider other options.
$20 pp sounds very reasonable to me. It's a little higher than I might pay for a pasta bar myself, but once you factor in that the caterer is traveling (rather than a restaurant with its own kitchen) I really think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better price.
@chachacha- I actually live in St. Paul but our wedding is in Buffalo close to where we grew up.
@Mrs.Spring- The reception venue is actually supplying all the plates, silverware, glassware, and ice. We are allowed to bring our own alcohol (which is what we are doing) as there will be an off-duty cop there and my brother's friends are bartending for us so we are all covered there!
Thanks everyone for the imput! I spoke with my mother about it too and she thought it was a decent price as well.
In that case, you struck an awesome deal! I think the price is very reasonable. :)
If the food is good, thats a great deal! The only places that do it that cheap around here are sketchy banquet halls.
I think its very reasonable.

So I just got an estimate from a caterer for $2000 to feed 100 people. It includes salad, bread, a pasta bar (2 noodle choices, 3 sauce choices, and a chicken or sausage option), cake cutting, lemonade, iced tea, and coffee. There would be 3 attendants and 2 cooks. This does not include alcohol as we are able to bring our own. Maybe it's just me, but the thought of spending 2 grand on food makes me a little sick. I could feed myself for nearly a year for that amount of money, lol!
Ladies please tell me if this sounds about right, or if I should keep looking for a better deal.
Thanks!
