Depends where you live. Check ou several people that you like their work and compare. You migh get a deal because your date is “odd season” so ask about it.

My photographer is $2,300 and includes an engagement session plus the digital rights to the images. That’s important to have!! Otherwise you can never get a print of your photos without ordering through the photographer, which is obscenely expensive.

We got lucky with a videographer because my brother in law is a wedding photographer and is having someone he works with film the ceremony/reception and then BIL is doing all of the editing, which is the expensive part. When I got quotes though they ranged anywhere from $1,000+.

the prices range a lot. from $500 to $9,000 for the ones I looked at. This was only photography, though. I think videography is usually $1k or more.

We ended up picking a $3k photographer (husband and wife team).

@kolsen206:  This is like asking how much to pay for a car, or a steak at a restaurant, or a house.  Photography varies a lot by skill, talent, experience, popularity, demand, and items included in the package.  There is no right or wrong answer.  There is probably some minimum, some maximum, an some average.  Just like buying any of the above, only you can decide what you like and what it’s worth to you.

I suggest looking at photographer’s websites, and obtaining prices.  You will start to see what you can get for XXX dollars.  From there narrow down, make appointments and hopefully award a contract.

We splurged a bit because photography is VERY important.  We are paying about $3500 which includes the e-session, a 20 page album and all photos on disc with rights.

It depends on your budget and where you live. Do your homework shop around and meet with a few different photographers. Photography is important. Its something that will preserve the memories of your wedding day. But you should choose someone that you can afford also.

What i have seen on various wedding planning sites is that your photographer should be about 15-17% of your overall budget. I am not sure what the percentage is for video however.
