One the 200 are gone is the bar still going to be able to make them if they're requested? I think 200 sounds like a decent number considering the amount of guests.
Once they're gone, the bar won't make anymore (too time consuming and too many extra ingredients--we're just hiring my brother's friends as bartenders). We are also going to have them passed at the beginning of cocktail hour, so that may encourage more people to drink them. I'm torn between not wanting to run out and not wanting gallons of leftover mojitos at the end.
How many of your adult guests drink then? Maybe you want to consider having enough so that every adult drinker can possibly have 2 and then leave it at that. I don't think anyone is going to want more than 2 when they're also been offered beer and wine and various.
Thanks littlemissmoo! I'm guessing for the most part, it'll be the women drinking mojitos, and I wasn't sure how many I should expect them to drink--I mean, I figure I'll have as many as I can drink and still remain standing, but some women will likely just want 1. Two is probably a pretty safe guess.
Ditto two for every adult drinker. Some people will gravitate more towards the beer and wine, but better safe than sorry. And there are those who just like mixed drinks, and will probably stick to the mojitos.
I would say if 300 is too much at least 225-250. I think when there are signature drinks, everyone likes to get at least 1 so that they can sample it, but then a lot of people will switch to their usual beer or wine. So 225-250 gives you not everyone a second, but a lot of them.
hotwings sounds just about right to me. The mojito isn't a totally unknown drink, but it is one of those drinks that 95% of everyone seems to like.
So one each then enough for 50% makes sense.
Thanks all! I was thinking most people liked mojitos, but wasn't really sure. 250 was my original thought, but I was worried it might be overkill.
I would agree with the 1.5 per guest idea (a la miss hot wings). Let us know what your signature mojito recipe will be! =)
I need to wait for the summer for the mint--it grows wild at my parents house, but basically I make mint simply syrup: heat equal parts water and sugar with a bunch of mint till the sugar disolves. Let the mint steep then drain it out. This saves the step of muddling the mint leaves and the concern about trying to get the sugar to disolve in the cold drink.
Then I mix the mint simple syrup, lime juice (from a bottle, I'm lazy), rum and club soda. I usually just make it to taste, so I'll have to do some trials to figure out the proportions. Those are trials I'm looking forward to!

I'm working on figuring out the bar for our wedding. We're going to have about 150 adult guests, and serve beer, wine and a basic selection of liquor and mixers.
I also want to do mojitos as a signature drink--I love 'em, plus its nice and summery for our outdoor reception. To simplify things for the bar, I want to make them up in advance (from fresh ingrediants, not using a premixed kind), so I'm trying to figure out how much to make.
I was thinking enough for 200 drinks. Does that sound like enough? Too much? Thanks for your thoughts!
