I would ask your photographer what they prefer.

We discussed our family size with our photographer (my father’s side is very large) and he asked for at least half an hour after the ceremony but would really like 40 minutes, we’re scheduling 45 minutes after the ceremony for couple and family shots. We also plan to shoot a first look and BP photos before the ceremony. We are not having a gap as the entire event will be at the same location.

We did not do a first look.  Here’s kind of how we did things:

1pm- Ceremony

1:30-2:30- Photos… we started with grandparents and parents, then they went to join the rest of the guests upstairs (ceremony & reception at the same venue) for cocktail hour.  We did wedding party photos, a few bridal shots, and some fun shots after.

2:30- Grand entrance followed by first dance

2:45- plated lunch served

Then we did our father-daughter & mother-son dances, cake cutting, bouquet & garter tosses, and of course adult libations were enjoyed and enthusiasic but awkward dancing ensued.
