Hi there!
I would say anywhere between 9-12 months before the wedding is a good time, depending on the caterer. The "in-demand" one's book up to a year in advance. But if you're not going for anyone in particular, then you should be ok!
My advice would be to figure out a budget, menu, etc. & give those caterers on the list a call, they can usually give you an estimate if you have the details for them. From there, pick the ones you like and schedule a consultation/tasting, & then you'll know who you want to go with!
Good luck to you!
Thanks ClaireLeann! I've been calling caterers and we're planning a trip the first weekend in August to meet with a few. So I've been getting ballpark per person numbers and then I'm going to call the ones back that are in our budget and get specific proposals. Is that the way you did it?

Hi bees! I'm new to the forum. We are getting married June 2, 2012 but we currently live in Houston, TX and our wedding will be in Baltimore, MD. We have our venue and I have my dress but that's it. I know that tasting food and deciding on a caterer is next but flights have been expensive lately so we've been waiting to book a trip. Is August too long to wait? We have an approved catering list from the venue so I'm kind of limited. And I know June is a popular month to get married so I'm worried about waiting to long to book. Where is the cut off usually? 9 months?
Thanks in advance for your help!! :)
