I was asked at work to book my vacation days for this summer. I’m getting married August 4, and was thinking of taking the week before, and the week after our wedding. Fiance is thinking of taking a few days before, and the week after.
(Our honeymoon will only be in October.)
How much time off work did you take (or thinking of taking) for your wedding?

I’m taking a full week for the honeymoon, completely off the Thurs + Friday before the wedding and a 1/2 day that Wednesday before since people will start arriving Wed afternoon. So total 7.5 days

I officially have off the Friday before and the two following weeks. However people are arriving Wednesday night so I only plan on working half a day on Thursday, so 11.5.

Well, this doesn’t really answer your question as it relates to your situation, but due to other circumstances, I cut back my hours to about 15/week 6 weeks before the wedding, and then stopped working completely 3 weeks before.
I found that the most stressful time was actually about 3 weeks before…that was when final RSVPs were coming in, and we were really dealing with all the details; everything that could be taken care of more than last minute. Because of that, I really wasn’t too busy the week before. If I were you, and only had 2 weeks vacation, I would probably take a couple days off several weeks before the wedding to just work on wedding stuff, and then a few more days off right before it.

I’m going to take October 3rd through October 17th off for our wedding and honeymoon. That’s three work days before the wedding and eight work days after the wedding for a total of eleven days off.

I am taking a month off. I haven’t had any vacation since I started working at my job and I cannot wait to get this month off! Yay!

I only have 2 weeks vacation for the whole year.. But I think I will use 2 days before wedding.. and the 4 the following week (Monday is a holiday, wahoo!) and then the next week. We want to go some where tropical for a week then Disney for a few days!

I ended up taking off the entire week before the wedding and 3 days after. The original plan was to take 3 days off before, and 2 days off after. However we had a really tough death in our family 7 days before the wedding, so I took more time off to deal with everything that was on my plate.

I was thinking of taking a few days off before the wedding, and then taking out entire honeymoon off. It might come out to about 3 weeks off from work – but I’m Per Diem and have that luxury (although I won’t get paid for it!)

I am taking two and a half weeks off. Woo hoo!

I’ll probably do a week since we aren’t taking our honeymoon till later. Unfortunatley, it’s our super busy time, so I might be in a work from home situation more than anything. I’m stocking up on vacation days now though. I’ve already gotten 20 saved. Boo-ya!

Thank you for all your answers. Much appreciated!
@red_rose: Good point about the 3 weeks before. I will take that advice and take some time off in July as well.

Since I’m having a Destination Wedding, I’m saving all my days for the actual trip and taking none before we leave. This could be disastrous but I don’t have much vacation time. I wish I could take a day or 2 before the wedding. Anyhoo, I’m taking a total of 9 days for my 14 day wedding/honeymoon.

I took off 2 weeks – the week before the wedding and the week after for the honeymoon. I’m not positive, but I might have taken off the next day too — We got back on a Sunday night, I kinda think I took off Monday too. My Darling Husband took off the Friday before the wedding – He worked long days all week to make up for it – and he took off the week for the honeymoon, some of which was covered by paid vaca days (such as holidays that he had worked throughout the year) 🙂
