FI and I have been talking about doing a first look. I think it would be nice to have a  few moments together and get a handful of photos out of the way prior to the ceremony so maybe we can catch part of our cocktail hour.

We're planning to start the ceremony at 3:00 pm, so when would we ideally want to do our first look? It doesn't take long to get into my dress and my hair & makeup appointment is currently set for 11:00 am. Is that enough time to get ready or should I try to move my appointment up to 10? The salon is about 20 minutes from our venue.

My husband and I did about an hour and a half of pictures before our wedding.  We still ended up missing most of the cocktail hour with the family pictures and everything.

It just depends on what exactly a "first look" means to you and what you want to do. We did a first look just for the purpose of seeing each other and having a moment/a few sweet candid shots of us together. Our ceremony started at 3:00pm, and we did our first look at 2:45pm in a secluded spot at the church.

Others decide to do a lot of fun photos together in a specific location. If you want to do that, I would say budget plenty of time to get to/from the location plus about an hour for photos. If you tell your photographer what you're looking to do, he/she should be able to give you a realistic estimate of how much time you should need.

I figured we'd just do our first look at the venue. It seems like planning it for 1:30 or 2 o'clock would be reasonable. Thanks!
