Just got engaged to my wonderful AF man who is currently in Navigator School.  We won't know what plane he gets until January, and likely won't know what's involved as far as additional training is concerned until February or even March.  I would LOVE to start planning, but I don't know how realistic it is to plan a wedding for a specific date that I won't be CERTAIN he can make.  But I also would hate to miss an opportunity to have a great weddng on a day we're pretty sure he'll be able to make, just to wait until we're certain, because when are you ever certain in the military??  Any other Nav or Pilot wives out there with similar situations?  Any advice?

Oh gosh, my FI isn't in the service but if this were me I would wait for a day that I know for sure he'll be able to make.  God forbid there's an issue!  Or, I don't know if this is even possible, tell the vendors your interested in about your situation and see if they can be flexible.  I mean if you pick one day, and you're giving deposits and installments but then he can't make it, will they allow you to still have the service but switch it to another day that they have available.  Its worth looking into!

That's a great idea, Jennifer.  Thanks.  I don't know how flexible they'll be, but it can't hurt to ask!  Thanks!!!

Hey there! My husband's a captian in the military. Lots of my friends are army wives =]. my advice is do NOTHING until you know what's going on. And don't expect them to be flexible, they usually aren't! Pick a holiday weekend if you're super worried about it. For us, we picked a time around block leave when we knew he'd be able to take off 3 weeks no problem. It really really depends on the unit. All the vendors we talked to were really cool with us moving the wedding date back. In fact, we got a discount on our food for him being military =]. So make sure you ask! PM me if you have any questions! I planned our wedding while he was deployed! =] Holidays are pretty much your safest bet though! Unless he's deployed, then you're SOL basically!
