Where in Key West are you and your fiance thinking about having your wedding?  Our wedding was pretty small – 75 guests and we got married at Ernest Hemingway’s home this past February.

We are having a key west wedding!  We are inviting 45 people and are estimating spending about $13k if everyone comes— but this includes the flights for me, FI, and FI’s parents  AND the hotel room for me and FI and his parents for four days.

We are doing a catholic ceremony with a sand blending ceremony on the beach afterwards, and then dinner at a restaurant across from Mallory Square.  We are also hosting a scavenger hunt, rehearsal dinner, and day after brunch.

@bsmith09:  Have you tried Roof Top Cafe?  I’ve heard that is great place for receptions.  Hemingway Home is about $3500 but that was during high season and I believe Dave said the rates are lower in low season and you get the house until 11 p.m.  We had Mangoes cater our dinner – they did a great job.  Also, your caterer will provide table and chairs for you as well as simple white linens for you to use.  For the liquor should you decide to do open bar, my husband and I brought our own – we went to a liquor store and spent based on how many of our 75 guests were drinkers (big drinkers or not) we spent about $800 and got more bang for our buck should we have let our caterer provide liquor and they provided mixers for our drinks so we just had to pay for a bartender fee and we had a ton of beer/liqour/wine left over!  For decorations, if you don’t want to do white, check out BBJlinens.com.  You can pick out your linens (they will send you swatches before you order) and they will send you UPS return packages/labels for you to send the linens back to them.  We had an awesome dj which cost us $1000 (if you are interested, let me know).  For hair/makeup, I used Marie-Pierre who is beyond amazing.  For hotel, we stayed at Lighthouse Court which is across the street from Hemingway Home.  The only thing we found to be a pain in the butt was that a lot of the hotels would not do block on rooms for a long period of time – was mostly 30 days for them to hold the days and depending if it’s a holiday weekend, some require a 3 night stay.  We used Love in Bloom florist and Nulita is amazing – she will work with you on prices.  And for our cake, we used Key West cakes – spent $630 for a three tier cake (top was 6″, middle was 9″, and bottom layer was 12″) – they did an amazing job.  I’ve also heard that Jane at Crossiants de France does fantastic cakes.

@ca110:  As you got married at the Hemingway House, can you tell me if you noticed the cats during the reception? Did they cause any problems? Just trying to figure out how much we will notice them. One of our guests is allergic and wondering if it will be a problem as we will be outside during the festivities.

@BettyGrace:  We are considering Key West for our Honeymoon.  I just read this thread the other day, they do talk about cats being a problem for them and not a problem for them at Hemmingways.

Anybody marry at the Hemingway House in Key West?

But there are beautiful photos and more information on this thread which may help others, too!

Hey ladies, we’re doing a destination wedding in Key West.  We’ve been in contact with Four Star Rentals as a vendor for chairs and such on the beach and they have some arches but none I’m crazy about. This is exactly what we want- do yall have any vendors you could recommend that may have a piece like this?

@maypearl:  Check out Prestige Rentals in Key West.  Their website has pictures of a similar arch and I’ve found them to be the most affordable compared to the other rental co’s on the island.

As for budget, we were initially looking to spend $15K for approx 70 people and sadly, our budget is now approaching $20K.  Beware, nothing in Key West is as cheap as the drinks on duval!
