I’m getting married in a pretty rural area in the NE, and my biggest struggle is finding vendors. I live in NYC, a couple hours away from the venue which makes it harder.
I was thrilled to see a make-up artist advertising in the coments page of my wedding venue, especially because they have over 50 reviews on weddingwire and all 5 star. I’ve seen photos of their work and it looks pretty good!
I contact them and this is their pricing:
-$100 bridal makeup
-$75 each make-up for bridal party/others
-travel fee depending on location
My venue is far enough away from their location that I might need to pay a travel fee, but they advertised on my venue’s website so I’m not sure how I feel about that. On the other hand, my venue is a half-hour from ANYTHING so I’m not sure how I’d find anyone closer.
Is this reasonable? I guess I was hoping to pay less for a consultation or have consultation credited towards wedding day makeup costs if I booked them, but I was expecting to pay MORE for bridal makeup. But honestly I don’t know what’s reasonable! My BMs want professional makeup and I’ve heard advice saying I should go pro, but I originally had considered doing it myself and I don’t have a huge budget for it.
Is this reasonable? What did you pay? Would you recommend getting pro makeup?

Are you going to them for your consultation? The other fees seem reasonable, especially considering travel, but the consultation fee seems high if you’re going to them.

That would be a very good price here. I paid $100 for consult, $100 for day-of, and $75 for travel fee… and that was more than 2 years ago.

@tksjewelry: I would consider going to them, but it seems that the consultation fee is $100 whether I go to them or they come to me, but if they come to me there’s an additional travel fee.

I didn’t have a consultation fee, but I did pay for a hair/makeup trial…is that the same thing? Mine was $70. And then my makeup that day was $90.
Makeup for all bridal party members was $50 each

This is just makeup, not hair, correct? Granted you are in NYC, but that seems very steep. I’d just make sure to check out her portfolio – hopefully she does a killer job for those prices!

Mine was $100 (or $150? Can’t remember) for the hair and makeup trial, which I had right before engagement pictures. Then it was $250 for me on the wedding day, and $130 for each girl hair and makeup. My wedding was in one of the most expensive wedding cities, she had 2 assistants, and they did a phenomenal job.

My day of makeup (airbrush) is $405. My trial was $200.
