So far I’m only at 3lbs at 25 weeks tomorrow. Of course I already said that in roll call =] I’m curious to see what the average is on here! I won’t vote since,  I’m not done yet.

I am up 30lbs at 34 weeks.. i gained a ton during my 2nd trimester and averaging about a pound a week right now… a little higher than it should be but in an acceptable range according to my midwife. 🙂

This came up because of me! I had my 28-wk appt this morning, and it was the very first time the doctors have EVER mentioned my weight. Never, ever before today. I’ve even asked, since they weren’t mentioning. Last time I asked, they said, “oh, you’re fine.”

So today, with a doc in the practice I hadn’t yet met before, she asks, “What are you doing to watch your weight?” Um…what? Then she tells me how I’ve gained 34 lbs so far (28 weeks along). I’m like, “WHAT?!” because this is literally the first they’ve ever told me the numbers or mentioned my weight at all. I had no idea. (Been trying to not pay attention to the numbers, since I have a history of weight loss and subsequent gain that’s already got my head all crazy, I don’t need more crazy while I’m growing a healthy baby). I passed the glucose test, my blood pressure is fine, everything else is going fine…but NOW they mention my weight, 34 lbs in? I’m just MAD AS HELL about the whole thing. I know I’m fat, but now’s not the time to just START talking about it, and not brought up in such an open-ended way. (How DO you answer, “What are you doing to watch your weight?” when no one’s ever mentioned you watching your weight before??? I wish I’d given her more than just a weird look when she said that. I really hated the whole thing)

PLUS, I’m pretty sure I was down a lb or two at this appt from last time. So…thanks?

Anyway, I’m just going to avoid the super-bad stuff for a while and make sure I’m otherwise healthy, which I am, and hopefully not have to hear it every time I go in.

    I gained around 30lbs. I think I started around 112lbs and was 141lbs when I gave birth.

I didn’t answer because I’m only 24 weeks and for a long time, I was very concerned about my weight gain and almost competetive–i.e. comparing how big my bump was to others. That wasn’t a healthy way to live for me or the baby. It suddenly dawned on me that pregnancy is such an unique and special time, I shouldn’t waste my energy concerned about my weight gain. I should spend my energy trying to make healthy decisions, preparing for baby, and enjoying the experience!

Just remember, everyone is different and every pregnancy is different. As long as you are eating healthy foods and staying active, your body will gain what it needs to gain to maintain a healthy pregnancy.

I gained 14lbs. I am 6’1″ and weighed 170lbs at my first appointment. My daughter weighed 8lbs at birth. I had gestational diabetes, so my carb intake was pretty low, and I was extremely active, mostly because my weight gain was low and I never got super big. I bought one pair of maternity jeans and wore my regular ones with a rubber band on the button.

Everyone always says they are jealous that I didn’t gain much, but months of now sweets was emotionally difficult. Tell a pregnant woman “no sweets” and see how that flies. I stuck to my carb intake every single day and did not cheat once. I was so scared of needing a c-section because I wanted to eat anything not nailed down. In the end it was worth it. My husband brought me a cinnamon rollfter I delivered, and everything was right with the world. The best part is I really don’t like sweets and junk food as much as I did. It all tastes funny now.

Another downside was no one believed I was pregnant. Lol. I didn’t start questionably showing until seven months. People were rude when I was moving slow or out of breath. No one held doors or gave me extra time to accomplish things. We went to a garage sale the weekend before I delivered (at 40 weeks) and a lady asked when I was due. I told her I was having the baby that Wednesday, and she seemed shocked and asked if something was wrong. I told her the only problem was that I had been cooking for 40 weeks and wanted to hold my baby with my arms and not my abs. She looked at me like I was insane. I really didn’t look fully cooked.

@ScottishMrs:  I gained 4 lbs during my first tri, then I believe about 22 lbs during my second tri? My starting weight was 108 and I’m up to 140 now with 6 weeks left. So, I was lets say 25-26lbs up going into the third trimester.

Does that help? My exercise has decreased dramatically in my third trimester, i’m not eating nearly as well and I am exhausted.. and baby is growing at about 0.5lbs a week – so… all things considered, I expect I’ll be up anywhere from 30-40lbs by the time this peanut arrives.

It’s really amazing how different people are during pregnancy – we have a couple girls in our Nov group who have gained less than 5 lbs (seriously!), most have gained around 20-25 and some like myself who are in the 30+ range.

I hope people don’t use this to compete because there are different weight goals based on your starting weight. But this is very informational ! It would probably make more sense if people responded with original weight.

I gained just over 50lbs.  I don’t feel like I ate THAT badly, and I exercised throughout most of my pregnancy (half marathon at 19 weeks, zumba until 7 months, spin class til almost 9 months, after that I stuck to the pool!

I started out around 125, and stopped looking after I realized at my 38 week appointment I was heavier than my husband 🙁  That was at 175ish, give or take.  I was pregnant another 3 weeks after that too, so I’m not sure what my max weight ended up being.
