How much weight do you typically gain between Christmas and New Year? For the first time ever I will be in France this holidays (usually Christmas in Aussie is hot) and am dreading the winter weight gain. No access to gyms, can’t run and loads of yummy food, how do you maintain your weight? Doesn’t living in cold weather make you burn more calories?

I typically don’t gain any weight during holidays as I always watch what I eat and I try to go to the gym regularly. If I am somewhere on vacation where I don’t have access to the gym, I make sure I walk around a lot to burn extra calories.

I generally stay the same. For a few days I eat whatever I want and drink a lot of wine, but being a lactose intolerant vegetarian means my options are pretty limited, and mostly fairly healthy. When we are away I can’t get to a gym because there isn’t one in the little seaside town where we stay, but I get in a quick 5k run followed by a surf most mornings, so I’m still pretty active.

I’m going to allow myself 2 cheat days, a week apart. The rest of the time, I’ll be on my usual perma diet.
I’m trying to get a couple of lbs under my ideal weight before my cheat day, so I’ll have breathing room.

I stay the same. I don’t really eat more or laze around more because it’s holiday. Sometimes I lose a bit, because I become more active (e.g. shoveling snow, carrying firewood, etc), but on those days, I naturally become hungrier so I think I eat more to fill up that extra negative calories…haha
