If you go to a liquor store, they have formulas that can calculate how much wine you will need. Same goes with caterers - they have good estimates based on the # of ppl. We are providing our own liquor and have worked with the local liquor stores to come up with amount we need to have.
I think one of the factors maybe if you are offering wine during dinner which may increase the amount you may need. In most of the weddings I have been to, I noticed that "non-wine drinkers" will say yes to wine (both red and white!) if it is offered since the bar is closed. In many instances, a lot of that wine goes to waste.
We are having the bar open during dinner so if people want wine, they would have to go to the bar to get it.
Our reception is an afternoon, hor doerve reception, so it won't be "dinner" or "buffet", that's why I thought most people may only drink a glass of wine for a toast or something. A majority of my side are beer drinkers, a few on his side drink wine, plus it will be afternoon, so I didn't get as much as I would if it was evening.
I think you're supposed to have about 1 bottle per two people...though if most guests are beer people, you could maybe cut that down to 2 per four. But you still probably need more, either way (thankfully, you can always keep the wine for you and your fiance, so it won't go to waste!).
Are you serving wine by the glass? You get about 4-4.5 glasses of wine per bottle so youd be looking at close to 50 glasses of wine, which I think would be enough for 80 people (especially if there are more beer than wine drinkers) Can you purchase more wine and have the option to return it to the store if it is unopened?
You really don't have enough wine...I would have at least 20 bottles of wine but probably more like 24 bottles. Sorry, I know wedding are expensive but I have done tons of events and 12 bottles will not make it. Find a vendor that will let you retun unopened bottles and buy more!
I may have some more on reserve....I'm also thinking that b/c it is an afternoon reception vs. evening, people won't drink AS much....but with my friends I never know!
Tons of great bottles are under ten dollars. For about 80 dollars, I would get 8 more bottles and have peace of mind.

Hey everyone,
We are providing wine/beer at our small reception, about 80 people. We have 2 kegs and 12 bottles of wine. Most of the people are beer drinkers, but I don't want to run out of wine either... help!
