A friend of mine recommended a cake topper company which does custom work. This company also uses Swarovski crystals.
I laughed when I looked at the prices. Though the work is gorgeous and original, there is no way in hell that I pay $200+ for a cake topper. Although I understand that some people think that is a good investment, it seems foolish and frivolous in my eyes. I can get a bedazzled cake topper for less than $50.
I wonder if I am being cheap. Is it completely common for people to drop hundreds on a cake topper? How much would you pay for one?

PositiveThinking: It is such a non-thing for me. I didn’t give a crap about it. So I budgeted for no more than $50. It ended up being $12, plus 12 in shipping and taxes. $24 for a personalized acrylic cake topper. Done and done. I actually love it.

Ours was around or a little under 200 dollars. It was worth it because it was custom sculpted to (realistically) look like my husband and I in a very specific princess bride pose.

If I was getting a generic letter with glittery rhinstones, I would have just made it myself for under 10 bucks. But since we wanted something custom made and specific, it cost a lot more.

I doubt I would even pay $50. I don’t see the point in spending big bucks on something like that.

- Wedding: October 2014 - Church
PositiveThinking: We are paying 25 for one that is being made by our cake person. I couldn’t see or justify spending more than that!

I made mine for just under $15, so probably not any more than that.

PositiveThinking: my Fiance is making ours. He used a sheet of metal and cut out two birds with tin snips. He will sand them down and paint them. a cake topper was honestly one thing he would not let me spend money on. He is very into arts and crafts and it gave him something to do to feel he contributed to the wedding decor.

PositiveThinking: Haha… How about $0. We’re not having a cake, it’s not in our budget. So no need for a cake topper either. Couple hundred dolalrs saved right there…
Anyways, I know people keep momentos from the wedding, and a cake topper is something they keep. Guess this question is really budget-based… What a bride & groom are willing to put $$ towards.

I literally paid $1 for mine. Actually, my little brother did. When I was in 5th grade, I had the chicken pox just before our class went on an overnight camping trip… needless to say, I was a pretty bummed out grade 5 gal. My little brother took his allowance and bought me a little statuette at the dollar store and it happens to be two cats in bridal garb dancing. And I’m using it as my cake topper. So to sum up: $1 and a lifetime of memories!

That makes sense because yours was custom. You still paid a reasonable price for custom work.
All I want is a glittery “5”. The company which was recommended by my friend wanted $220 for that. Imagine!

I am having one made from a shop on Etsy (mudcards), and it’ll be about $133+ shipping when it’s done. I am excited to be able to put it on a shelf afterwards, as it will depict us.
If i had not seen this at a friends wedding, I probably would just do one of those letters on the top. But, this is a splurge!

I think you are getting a great deal for the price.
You aren’t paying some crazy amount and you are having your topper custom made.

I swore in the beginning I would not care about the cake topper and wouldn’t spend much. We even bought one for $15 that just said “We Did” and I was happy with that…UNTIL….I saw Mudcards on Etsy.com. OMG. I wanted it soo bad. I showed Fiance and he loved it too. I was still torn and didn’t want to spend the money. After a month of nonstop thinking about it, I just had to go for it.
Like Kacie209: I spend about $125 and do not regret it AT ALL. Its is very well made, in my china hutch right now until the wedding and will be proudly displayed there after the wedding. I LOVE IT. It is soooo us.

I told my hubby about the expensive toppers. His face was like .
He joked: “Woman, if you spend $200 on a frickin’ CAKE TOPPER, I will divorce you.”
Love my hubby’s sense of humor.
