I run a business with my mother. As a favor to my brother, she hired one of his friends (against my advice, but…) who was…a bit down on his luck, but trying to improve. Anyway, he was a pretty terrible employee, and she put up with him for a long time (missed meetings, behavior that essentially amounted to sexual harassment of other employees, generally being bad at his job, etc.) About a week ago, she gave him a “final warning.” He said he understood and asked only that if she had to get rid of him, she allow him to resign rather than be fired. My mother kindly agreed.
A week later, he doesn’t show for his shift, frantically texts an employee already working the early shift repeatedly asking him to work for him. Employee does so (thankfully), but at our request, not because he is actually willing to take the shift for crazy kid.
My mom stands by her word and even drafts a letter of resignation for this kid to sign so he doesn’t have to do it. He comes in and signs it.
Then he comes back a few days later and leaves this note on her desk:
I, Crazy McCrazy, reseind (sic) my resignation. I was missadvised (sic) by [Business]’s (sic–this mispelling includes the mispelling of our city…) management.
And then later:
Hey, [boss]. I’m leaving this note because when I resined (sic) I hadn’t considered unemploymnet. I reffuse to resighn (sic). Give me a call so we can talk.
My mom instead drafted a letter, had it checked by our lawyer, and fired his ass. He wants unemployment?? Sorry, you can’t get unemployment for being a dipshit…
