You don’t have to do it every other day of the month as long as you know when you’re ovulating, just a little up to your FP and in the window, so hopefully it doesn’t need to be a chore!

Daizy914:  I’ve never heard of such a thing. You can use OPK whenever you want. Mine recommended I start testing CD8 during my first cycle so I wouldn’t miss my surge if it was earlier than expected. If I were you, I would have been using it the past couple days because you’re probably right around your FW.

But yes, you only need to BD a lot during the FW.

Not sure what kind of OPK you got, but you just get the cheapie Wondfos on Amazon, you can use that whenever.  It doesn’t do anything fancy that I think the smiliy ones you start using at the begining of your cycle does, just detects the LH surge.  I usually start using it around CD16 or first day I notice EWCM and my chart always shows ovulation 2-3 days after my OPK is positive.

To answer the question, we typically DTD once or twice a week until the FW, then it’s every other day until after charts confirm O and back to normal.  Every other day for the entire month, month after month is just exhausting.  That got old after 2 months and we’ve been TTC for 2 years now and honestly, it does feel like a chore sometimes.  I’d suggest focusing on the fertile window and not exhast yourselves and make it a chore.

As long as you hit about every second or third day during your fertile time, there will be sperm in there to find the egg.  If you aren’t sure when you ovulate, then just start that frequency when your period ends and keep it up for a week or two.  With average-length cycles, that should cover all your bases.

Personally, we don’t find DTD more frequently than that a problem, so we just kept our usual routine instead of abstaining during my fertile week (as we had while TTA).  Maybe my husband is just odd, but if we only DTD when I was in the mood, I think he’d explode haha 😉

Every other day during my fertile window works well for us.  i ovulate on CD14 or CD16 most months so we BD every other day from CD 10-17.  Really, thats only 3 or 4 times in a week! Not too difficult!
