….after you ordered your dress?
I was told it would take 6 months for my dress to come in, but heard differing stories from people about getting their dresses early.
It’s been 4 months since I ordered. I want to call the salon, but I didn’t know if there is anything they could really tell me.
Thoughts? Experiences? Stories?

To my knowledge there is nothing they can really tell you. I work for a prom dress store and even if we call to check on the status of a dress the only time we can really get an update is the week it is due (and usually that is either yes it is running on time, or no, the shipment is running late. If it is late, they *may* give me a new estimated arrival date, or just keep telling us to call back. aggraviting!).
I would wait until closer to the date your gown is due in before you call to check on the status.

@Mrs.tobe: I’ve called twice because I’ve forgotten what date they told me. But the second time the estimated ship date was 10 days earlier than the original 🙂 I say it doesn’t hurt to try.

Not at all. We bought our dresses from a consignment store, and thus were able to take them home the same day.

@MissTatas:Thanks for the advice! (And that’s the worst- “call and check back later!” ughhh)
@floridabride12:That’s awesome that they upped your date! What great news! I might give it a few more weeks and just give them a call.
@2dBride:Nice! I wish I could have just bought something off the rack. So much less stressful.

Yeah, I didn’t harrass my salon, but I happened to have the luxury of going to the salon with my sister to have her try on bridesmaid dresses. We didn’t end up ordering there, but I did realize the one positive point of looking at BM dresses there – I got to poke in on the status of my dress without annoying anyone! 🙂

They will call you when it comes in! Let them keep their attention on the brides whose dresses are actually in or those who are shopping, particularly if they said 6 months and it’s only been four.

@pengoala: Very sneaky you are!
@Wonderstruck:I don’t see anything wrong with a phone call. It’s not like A 5 minute convo is going to hurt another bride. I’m dropping $900 they can make a little time to give me a status update.

@Mrs.tobe: Yeah, I guess the term ‘harass’ just struck me the wrong way. A big part of my job is TV/appliance deliveries, and it drives me crazy when people call weeks before their delivery date just to check on it. May be only five minutes to you, but you’re not the only one calling needlessly, and for me it often reaches the point where it’s annoying because I’m trying to setup new orders and get the next day’s deliveries ready and shipments unpacked, etc., and I’m busy fielding calls from people who know darn well that their order isn’t supposed to be in yet.

@Wonderstruck: Well I am a sarcastic witty type personality and the title was only meant to be funny. Soooo…
And honestly they never gave me a date, not even really an exact month. They said “round-about 6 months…” So I feel one phone call to ask if there is a more exact date couldn’t hurt.
But I understand where you’re coming from. Such is life, and work. We all have annoying things we have to deal with.

I haven’t called my shop yet, but they did call my mom (she ordered it & the shop is near her house in FL). When we ordered mid Jan they told me it will ship to the shop on June 6th. They called mom about two weeks ago and said it was still “on track” and would ship out June 7th. And ship time could take up to two weeks. Then I need it shipped out to me lol.
I’d love to be close by to go try on BM dresses! Sneaky and awesome 😉
