I’m not sure of the answer. I’d ask your vet.

Is there a reason you aren’t spaying her?

After a bit of quick googling, it’s usually roughly twice a year or so, but anywhere from 6 months to 10 months or so between heat cycles.

I’d speak to the vet! I’d assume the sooner the better in this sort of situation. A spay is much easier to handle than a bundle of mystery puppies. =D

Our dog comes into heat every 6 months. Yes, I agree they should be spayed. She has a severe heart murmer since birth and none of the vets are willing to put her under anesthesia. It’s too risky and I’m not risking her life to spay her.  We are responsible and we never let her outside off a leash and one of us us always with her. She is 7 and we’ve managed this long.

On average it’s 6 months. We have to wait for our puppy to go through her first heat cycle before we spay her…so at just over 9 months we’re on ‘heat watch’ and dreading the day it starts.

@DiamondnLovey:  I’m sorry that people can’t just answer your question without giving you unsolicited advice. I already knew the chorus of “get her spayed!” would chime in even though that’s not what you asked.

You’re obviously doing all you can.

@DiamondnLovey:  I totally understand!  It all takes time, you sound like a responsible pet owner.  I pointed out my situation because i didn’t want all of the “get her spayed” comments. I think pet owners can have unspayed/unnuetered pets and still be responsible.

@DiamondnLovey:  My old rottweiler used to go into heat about every 6 months
