that's really sweet Recessionista! when we were in our LDR, we didn't do this, just phone calls and AIM lol
@Gabgal: hehe thanks :)
I know there are tons of LDR ladies who do this... I read it in another thread before! haha
I know you're out there... don't be shy!
I'd love to hear more about these dates! It sounds like a great idea.
Usually on weekends we'll spend time gaming together, and/or watch a DVD together. Not sure if that counts as a date, but it's fun.
When we were in a LD relationship we would do that too! We also watched a lot of movies and tv shows "together" while we were on the phone!
@texas: That totally classifies as a date!
Our dates are so simple, but I look forward to them all the time! We take one night & just ignore everyone else. The world could be ending-- and we wouldn't know. We catch up, talk, play games against each other & make kissy faces over the webcam. Wanna see people act silly? Get a webcam! lol
It's VERY important to make time for each other in a LDR. On a date in person you wouldn't put your date on hold while you answered a call from your friend... or you wouldn't have the tv blaring in the background & kinda sorta be listening to what your date has to say! Haha or maybe some people do... but thats not how I roll! :)
We chat every night on the webcam, which is great. I remember a few years ago when we lived in the same place, we were watching the whole OC series together. So when i left, he made me a dvd of the last season, which we hadnt finished yet, then we would both watch the episodes at the same time. It was fun, and worked pretty well, almost like watching tv in the same room.
We call our phone conversations "skype dates" :) because they only happen once a week.
we tried doing weekly movie dates but that got hard when i had to cancel my netflix subscription and the local movie rental place closed in his town. we try our best to carve out time each week for something though.
We webcam every night. It is so helpful to be able to see him everynight.
During our four years apart, we didn't have webcams, so it was phone and AIM. Mmm, romantic, huh?
once every two weeks. It's hard, but we're used to it. No... not used to it. We're just making the best with what we have. I miss him daily!
We like to get into TV shows together and when he was in school he was 3 hours ahead of me. So he would download the show and call me up 3 hours later. We'd watch them "together" on the phone.
For the medical shows he would watch them 10 seconds ahead of me so he could warn me about gross scenes.
Thank goodness for unlimited mobile to mobile!
We tend to iChat video chat every evening, Skype is great too, we're just mac-fans---usually it's just to share each other's "company" while we work and multitask, though. Once a week or so we'll play online scrabble, and his parents were sooo sweet to find a vintage set of Battleship with the two separate stations (with all the pieces!!) and send each of us one of the sets! Was so sweet of them to remember we like games. We also watch TV show long distance, as well as YouTube videos (in 11 parts) "together" or iTunes rentals. :-)
The time distance is the worst part, we've been long distance throughout our entire friendship (7 years) and relationship (2 years) from CA to VA and are so anxious for December when he'll finally be moving out here!

Mr.RB & I *try* to have a date once a week on the computer. We break out the webcams, turn off our cell phones & play games on msn messenger! Its just a way we try to connect a few times a month.
Do you schedule dates? If not, how do you and your long distance love connect after months apart?
