I usually brush in the morning when I get up (preferably after coffee, but it depends on how late I'm running and what's going on that day; sometimes pre-coffee), and before bed.
If I have a lunch that has anything "sticky" or smelly in it, where the taste or feel will linger, I also brush after lunch when possible. I actually try to plan my lunches based on whether or not I'll be able to brush. Like, if I'm going to be on campus after lunch, I won't have anything with onion!
I also like to brush before I work out, but I don't always.
Since morning & night are my regulars, that's how I voted, but I guess I'm kind of all over the board!
I used to brush like 10x/day but my dentist yelled at me. I have an anxiety disorder and brushing used to help. Now I chew waaaaaay too much gum and my jaw aches all the time. Oh well.
I chose other because I brush my teeth 3x a day, but not morning, lunch and night. I work out at 5:30 in the morning so i brush before that, then i come home to eat and get ready for work, and brush them again before i leave for work. then i brush them before i go to bed. i can't imagine not brushing for a day or more - i can't stand leaving the house with dirty teeth!
I floss every second day, no exceptions unless I am camping or something. I brush 1-2 times daily. The reason for the once, is because sometimes I am so very tired, and fall asleep while intended to brush later, like if I wash my face, and then think, " oh but I want some chips, or an orange, so I'll eat that, and then brush my teeth".. Or sometimes I am plain lazy and just listerine at night. I always brush in the morning, and usually always brush at night. But I am being honest here, so it is 1 -2 times daily.
I brush twice a day (morning and night) and try to floss at least every other day.
3x a day, and even more than that if my mouth feels kinda funky. Call me crazy but hey, I've never had a cavity or a single thing wrong with my teeth!! :)
Once per day, usually. In the shower in the mornings.
I sometimes do it twice per day but I always forget and by the time I remember I'm all snuggly and warm in bed and don't bother. My teeth are super white, and I haven't had a cavity in over 8 years so I think I'm good.
I'm kind of a fanatic about my teeth. I voted twice a day (morning and night on a normal workday). But, if I'm home during the day and I'm about to go somewhere (meeting friends/out for lunch/out for dinner, whatever) I will brush my teeth a third time.
@BunnyBrideToBe: Haha I hate when that happens from chewing gum! The other night I bought a new pack of fruity 5 gum and it tasted like hubba bubba for adults and I could not stop unwrapping new peices. My jaw was so sore the next day lol.
To answer my own question I generally brush morning, lunch, and bed time. If I eat something smelly or something that leaves a bad texture in my mouth I will brush more than 3x, but usally just the three is good. I floss about once a week because I hate it!
I really should floss more often, but I always brush once a day. Occasionally if I take a second shower or my mouth feels particularly foul I'll brush twice but not always.
I just read an article that said brushing right after meals isn't a good idea because of something to do with the enamel being soft.
Im actually shocked that some people only brush once a day! I brush in the morning when I wake up and at night before I go to bed. I also use mouthwash sometimes during the day just to have my mouth feel clean.
Usually once in the morning, I tend to forget or get lazy at night UNLESS I eat something very strongly spicy or garlicky for dinner, and then I will brush before bed. I also have a weird compulsion where I have to brush my teeth whenever I get out of the shower. It's like if the rest of me is clean, my mouth has to be clean, too. So if I shower, I brush after that, too.
I'm pretty sure that flossing is almost more important in some aspects because it cleans the actual gum line, where the root sits. Anyways, I couldn't imagine not flossing regularily, if I leave it for even two days, it amazes me how much gunk can come out of them.
I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this but everytime I see this thread I think of the quote from Glee. From Brittany, "I don't brush my teeth. I rinse my mouth out with soda after I eat. I was pretty sure Dr Pepper was a dentist."
LOL
I brush my teeth 2x a day.
I brush once a day, although I will sometimes brush a second time if I'm going out somewhere or feel particularily hygienic that day. I would love to have the motivation to brush before bed, but I get too lazy. I also used to floss every day before bed, but I've gotten lazy and haven't flossed in a while. :( My dentist gets mad at me, but I'm going to see him on Saturday, and he'll give me new floss which will hopefully get me back on track!
After breakfast and before bed most days. If I'm at home and about to go out I'll brush again so my breath is ok.
I have finally made a habit of flossing EVERY day! Hurray! I floss before brushing at night, so once a day. It's something my dentist has been encouraging for a while now and it's finally a habit.
Any less than 2x brushing is not good for your teeth and we really should be flossing more as a society.
I typically brush once a day (in the morning) unless there is a taste or smell I want to clean out of my mouth before going to bed.
I brush 2x's a day and floss 1x a day - always at night.... and always. The first time I went over to DH's house for a BBQ (when we were first dating), I asked him for some floss and he didn't have any. It was almost a deal breaker. Almost....
I brush 2X a day but SUCK at flossing. My hygienist even facebook messaged me one day to remind me. :p I programmed it into my calendar and will listen to it occasionally. Probably twice a week. Heh. :/ But I LOVE my teeth. :) And never have had a cavity *knock on wood*.
2x a day, when I wake up and before I go to bed. In high school I had a friend who's boyfriend never brushed. Like for months and months at a time (if he ever did). He said his teeth were too sensitive and it hurt to brush. He also refused to go to the dentist. There were a lot of gross things about him, though, that was just the tip of the iceberg. I don't know how she stayed with him for so long (2 years), I couldn't stand to be within two feet of him.
I brush once a day and I can't tell you the last time I flossed.
FI has a family member who seldom brushes his teeth. It's pretty foul.
I brush 2x/ day and floss after lunch and at night.. I am a hygienist so I better be good :)
Ok, time for the gross kid to chime in!
I brush 1-2 times a day. I used to brush 3 three times a day without fail, because I have terrible teeth. All of my back teeth have fillings, literally. My dentists (plural, the one I had as a kid and my current dentist) told me that some people just have weaker teeth and that there was really not much I could have done to prevent the cavities. Now I just brush to keep my breath fresh. (I haven't had a new cavity in 5 years.) I brush every morning and about half of the time at night. I use a mouthwash at night almost every night, though. I always get a good review as far a plaque/ tartar build-up and gum health go, though, so suck it.
I floss about once a week unless I eat something that leaves me feeling the need.
@helenberrycrunch: it's all about the bacteria in your mouth, some ppl have bacteria that love to eat sugar and secrete acid hence cavities. So if 2 people had the same diet and brushing/flossing habits one may get 5 cavities and the other none..
Good for you for not having a cavity in 5 years!!
I am actually a little icked out by sweets (one piece and I'm done), except ice cream and sometimes cake. I've never had a really bad diet, but I slept with my mouth open when I was little and the dentist is convinced that's what caused it.
I brush two times a days always...so morning (after I eat) and before I go to bed. Sometimes I will brush 3 times a day if say I'm going out on a Sat. night or out with other people. I usually floss every other day, sometimes I will get into a routine where I floss every night, sometimes I could go a week and then remember I need to floss!
I try my best to brush twice a day at least (sometimes more if i feel I need to) BUT i do alot of times fall asleep early watching tv and just go crawl in the bed with out my nightly brush...
I am bad about flossing .. my teeth are so close together that it is hard so i usually only floss maybe a once a week unless i have soemthing stuck in my teeth ... I do use listerine though everytime i brush which is what my dentist definately reccomends.
@helenberrycrunch: I am with you there... my family has genetically bad teeth... I have only every been to the dentist once and not had a cavity. My dentist always brags about how my gums look good i have almost no plaque buildup that i do a great job at keeping everything clean BUT I always have a cavity! All of my back teeth have numerous fillings. Most of them have been very insignificant though even to the point that to fill them all but 4 have been just right under the enamel of my teeth and have not even needed to be numbed to do the drilling.
@FutureMrs.Harless: My sister got the weak teeth gene from my mum. Almost every dentist visit she needs a new filling, as does my mother. My father and I have really good teeth, pretty sure I've only had about...3 fillings ever. BUT my father and I have wonky teeth (well, I DID until I had braces), so dad has problems because of that and grinding his teeth which has cracked a few.
If you were to look in my mouth at my molars though, most people would think I need a massive filling. The deep parts of my teeth are VERY deep and have become stained over time. My dentist can't get the stain out by normal cleaning. So it's weird that my teeth look the worst but are actually the best in my family.

Hello Bees,
Just curious....How often do you brush your teeth?
I was watching a make over show that included dental work being done. During the consult with the dentist the woman admitted to never flossing and only brushing her teeth every few days. I get the not flossing thing because I think that's pretty common, but not brushing your teeth??
Maybe I'm shocked because I brush my teeth often and have pretty good oral health, but this seems grose to me. Wouldn't you have terrible breath and rotten teeth with all of the sugars and by products that many of us consume daily? Not to mention the plaque and gingivitis! To me this spells poor health in general.
I'm throwing it to the polls so we can see what the norm is. If you're one of the non-brushers, I mean no judgement, I'm just seriously taken aback. I'm curious because I work in the health industry, so lets see what you all have to say!
